My opinion is that Fassnacht was a far better option, he is more solid and it appears he does more than you see. And Hoff obviously agreed. He didn’t have a great game but that’s life. Meanwhile, I am hoping we get some decent loans in, that’ll really pee you off😉! Fassnacht does absolutely nothing, cannot understand what anyone sees in him'. He's primarily an attacking player but is largely a complete passenger when we go forward. He's usually solid enough from a defensive standpoint but I don't think we need a winger/attacking midfielder who's best attributes are defensive.

Doesnt really fufil the usual winger criteria for me. Might be more handy centrally as his finishing and positioning is very good.

The issue is, if a chance like that doesn't come along he does very little.

I wouldn't say he was particularly special but for the first time including pre-season, he looked like he worked well within the shape and structure of the team, and ultimately little things like his lay-off to Mclean is what created Hernandez' first goal. Definitely his best performance yet, I agree. Although he didn't set the bar too high with what I saw of his pre-season. 1 hour ago, JonnyJonnyRowe said: I'd still rather we triggered the one year option and loaned him out again than flog him like we did Mumba, he showed last season in League One that there is a player there. He's just turned 21, he's an England U20 international. And ultimately, he scored one and assisted one last night against an experienced League One side. A few heavy touches and hesitated a couple of times, but I think flogging him would be a rash decision unless it was a silly offer that we couldn't turn down. Yeah, I agree. I'm not saying I think we should cash in, just that that's what Shef had inferred from listening to the Pinkun podcasts.

He's a defensive winger, which I always find an interesting football manager description. I think it just means "plays out wide but doesn't score or create" - I do think he's a solid squad option

I think Fasshnacht is just too slow to be particularly useful in any wide role, but nobody is going to buy him so may as well just use him for the year until his contract expires in the summer.

Big O 286 Posted August 15 I think Kamara has a real opportunity to bed in over the next couple of weeks and get his confidence up. Don’t think we can let another wide player leave and it will be him or Hernandez on sat

CardiffCanary 163 Posted August 20 I think he’s obviously got the hump that Gabe has jumped above him in the pecking order. If he doesn’t want to knuckle down and compete then send him on his merry way.

daniel_grieff 23 Posted August 20 Does anyone else think it's a bit strange that his request comes right in the middle of the PR drive the club is doing, trying to paint itself as a breeding ground of young talent? Contracts for breakout players, starts for those who impress in training, as well as lip service from the manager and sporting director. So what is it that makes a guy yet to start a championship game want to jump ship? It doesnt seem right that he feels bigger than the club, like Rowe and Idah. Or that his pathway is blocked, we dont even have a RWF now that Fassnacht is injured. I dont get it!

By the time you'd posted this Pompey, Hull and Celtic had already been linked over the summer. His future with us was always up for debate too. Never going to start ahead of Sargent, Barnes or Idah. Idah's gone and they are confirmed to be looking for another striker. He's not really a winger either.

He has actually come off the bench a couple of times and pinched a spawny goal hasn't he? Perhaps that should be his role. Personally I just think he doesn't have the pace to be useful in any wide role, not sure about central/through the middle, might be worth a try there. He does have a goal in him. priceyrice 133 Posted August 20 Clearly the club and others see him as a talented youngster. Had a good late spell at Pompey by all accounts. To me though he looked far off the pace in pre season. Question is how do the club see him developing over the next couple of years and how hard they will fight this request. It does seem out of the blue though having been involved in the squad so far this season. I wonder if this is genuinely a problem with loaning youngsters. They get the experience playing regularly for a league 1 team and when they come back and can't be guaranteed that immediately they prefer to move on having had a taste of playing week in week out. You could also argue though that if we end up getting £15m for Rowe, and say £3m for Kamara, add to the £9m we got for Idah. Then that's £27m generated from academy products in one window. Pure transfer profit. Somebody told me that the academy costs us about £5m a year to run, not sure if that's an outdated or up to date figure. Its paying for itself. Its funding the Thorup revolution. Only one we might miss long term is Rowe, but I'm 50/50 on that, I'm never been entirely convinced that he will develop any further, could end up looking like fantastic business like the Josh Murphy and Jamal Lewis sales.
