A shame he’s gone.  Watched him through under 18s to Under 21s and always thought he would make it.  The Covid season was his downfall catching it when with Ireland and then again and never had a season in the Championship to really  establish himself.  Also Pukki was number one.  Hope all goes well for him in Scotland and he works hard, not like Cantwell.

Idah's time at the club makes an interesting case study into the complexity of developing a young player with potential. I think it's fair to say that he wasn't really successful with us but we've likely recouped more than we've spent on his wages and training so it's arguably a net gain.

However, it's hard to quantify the opportunity cost of the investment in his development: the time spent trying to get the best out of him and fit into the systems we were trying to play. He needed to play more first-team football in order to gain the skills and experience. We couldn't afford him the time on the pitch while he wasn't quite up to the level required for the top end of the Championship and the (bottom of the) Premier League.

Right now it looks like we wasted quite a bit of effort without much reward and we probably hampered his progress too. He needed a loan much earlier, though I'm still pretty unsure about how high his ceiling might be. For the last three seasons Norwich hasn't been a very good place for youth development with Rowe the only real exception.

I don't think many of us will be disappointed that his time here has ended but we may well be a bit annoyed if he kicks on to another level in the next few years. I'll always maintain that his hat trick against Preston was the worst thing that could have happened for his career because it seemed to make everyone think he was closer to the first team than he really was. He needed a season in League One...

I'm disappointed, ironically for many of the reasons in your post. Feels like his story here could have been told very differently had he got that loan after the Preston hat-trick. He still seems like a bit of a weapon to me. (In both the Parma sense and the other one).

But you certainly can't argue with the fee.

But I think the ship of disappointment sailed about 3 years ago. He never got that League One loan and was consequently never at the level we needed. You can't keep a player's registration indefinitely: either they make it or you let them go (or both for a big enough fee) but you can't keep hoping they'll come good without actually proving themselves. £8-9m is enough to cash in without too much fear of having undervalued him. I would have been happy with half that!

Do you seriously think people are blind ? No-one would pay £9.5 million unless they were getting a decent striker. Just because our coaching staff can't get the best out of him doesn't mean Celtic can't. The price tag just shows that Idah is definitely good enough for Norwich's level.
