Is it time to say goodbye to Sara?

Common, BYG is great with analysis but he doesn’t have inside sources. No one walks the corridors for him

I have no inside knowledge, but it looks a goer. Turkey is an absolute minefield for fake rumours, but the real reporters for more reputable sources are saying this is happening.

The PinkUn story seems to confirm this as well. I expect the noises from Turkey will ramp up how close this is to happening so they can claim the ‘exclusive’, but given Norwich have a game today, we’ll know just how close it is depending on whether Sara appears or not.

I never doubted he’d leave this summer, a little surprised it is to go to Turkey, but there doesn’t seem to be a strong enough suitor in the Prem right now. I was getting worried he’d end up at Leeds.

£20m is superb business for a player who has never played in the premier league

Based on previous sales in the championship and his stats, he's worth 25m. This would be more likely the final figure given add ons

Best we can hope for is a bidding war between Roma and gala and that’ll see the price go up and as you say I’m sure there will be add ons

Yes absolutely this and it’s pretty clear they have a line through to those who sign off on the deals this summer. Surprised Gala can go North of 20 million though ?!

They sold Sacha Boey for £35m in January and have agreed a deal worth £18m for Zainolo, so they are a little flushed for cash at the moment.

Sara does represent a huge deal for them though and he will have to do exceptionally well for them to turn much of a profit on him.

I hope he doesn't consign himself to Turkish football for his own career. He'd excel more in italy

I'd love anyone to explain how this board is any different to Robert Chase , and the stick he took for doing much the same?

Just in the last few years they've overseen the sales of the Murphy's ,Godfrey,Maddison,Buendia,Aarons,Lewis, Omabamidele,Rashica and now this....getting on for £200m pounds worth of sales..in an era where we have consistently either had premier league money or parachute payments.

Have they stalled on external investment during these years?

'Self-sustained' = failure and going absolutely nowhere

There is an argument to be had that we were doing exactly what Brentford did in their path to Premier League stability, by selling players and reinvesting, but that Webber got the Buendia one terribly wrong by spending the proceeds on two big ticket flops.

Brentford signed Maupay and Watkins for £1.6m and £1.8m, flogged them in 2019 and 2020 for £20m and £28m.

They upgraded on Maupay by spending £5.8m of that £20m on Bryan Mbeumo, and adequately replaced Watkins by spending £5m (rising to £10m) on Ivan Toney.

We could argue that we we got the Maddison replacement spot on, we signed Buendia with the proceeds. Just for some unfathomable reason Webber decided not to replace Buendia with a playmaker but with a couple of not particularly good wingers.

I think the Roma ship has sailed. They've already spent way more than anyone expected them to this summer, including €20m on Le Fee.

Roma have signed other players so won’t be coming in for him. Feels like although a lot of clubs like Sara, few actually want to spend the money Norwich want on him. Which I understand given his lack of  exposure to high level leagues.

I was getting worried that he’d go for under £20m to a Leeds or Leicester towards the end of the window. So a £20m+ deal now would be a good result.

I hope we're in a position to reinvest some or part. Seeing the likes of Hernandez and Sorenson back in the first team (if that happens) makes me feel like we're going backwards rather than forwards

The worry is other players will see this and want out too....i.e Sargent Rowe and Nunez

I predicted a couple of weeks ago that our midfield this season would comprise of McLean Sorenson and Gibbs

I also predicted that in that eventually I'd give up football and take up knitting...better go and purchase some needles

I think I would join you in knitting class if that's our midfield. I would just switch off

PinkUn reporting Norwich will move for a replacement immediately.

Interesting to see the type of player they get as a replacement.  For me, there wasn’t an obvious position for Sara to play in JHT’s 4-3-3 (although Sara is good enough to make it work). Can see the new midfielder being more of a natural 8/box to box type player.

Norwich must of earmarked a number of players knowing there would be interest in the much touted 3/4 likely sales / interest this window. It does seem the shift like you said for JHT preferred positional replacements rather than getting our existing team to fulfil JHTs preferred tactics and players just having to slot into the system

Sara and Sargent were the only thing that elevated us above the general throng of clubs in this league to being a top 6 side last season...and are/were the only things that may have done this forthcoming season

Unless Knapper can now prove he has some very good irons in the fire in the recruitment dept, mid table beckons and we'll turn into a Stoke City-esque obscurity

..and that process may be hastened if that player lets it be known via an agent, he wants out/ is open to a move

And NCFC will put a price on his head, make it clear they do not need to sell and will only do so if their valuation is met............

Can imagine Norwich will try and create a bidding war if all parties are happy for him to leave, can't imagine a Premier League club wouldn't come knocking. He's sadly far too good for the championship for sure

Thought the line in the tweet from Southwell about there being huge interest in him this summer pointed to that too. A lot of clubs perhaps waiting it out to see if they could get him for below our valuation (especially with Rowe and Sargent still here too). Now the shoe is on the other foot and the price has been set, not sure another club will match it but you'd think Sara would opt for a move into a higher level league if possible.

I feel like Nunez might be the “replacement” in some ways as well. Make or break for Gibbs to nail down that 3rd spot in the middle (provided McLean sticks about).

Was inevitable really.

Well thanks Gabs, you've served us well.

Time for new heroes, be interesting to see what the replacement is like.

Where does it's say they will move for a replacement nothing I can see in that article says this?

" They already have a list of targets prepared should Sara depart this summer, with Norwich ready to hit the market immediately. "

Does it?

Whats to say any of those players see this and now want to follow suit and want out after selling our best player?

As @Carrow89 says above....we cant possibly stand in the way of any player who wants to leave and must bend over backwards to help them with their every wish

Every player has their price. If Sara, Idah, Sarge, Nacho and Gunny all want to leave, we will be £50 -100m better off. None of them are moving to a top side though (Bayern, Real, Man City, PSG). If they down tools to push for a move to a big fish is a small pond it shows their level of ambition, like Cantwell.

Yes, would be good to see Nunez in a role where he has a bit more freedom. Don’t think he is really suited to being the guy who drops deep to collect the ball from defence.

I expect whoever comes in will be less of a creative player and more of a runner. That fits the system better.

I doubt every club im the championship has had a) the premier lge money we've had over the past decade...or b) close to £200m of player sales

Leeds literally selling Sommerville but ok

I feel Sara is the best of our crown jewels, so I wonder how much we could expect to get for either Rowe or Sargent if they go. 10 - 15 mil?

I think Sargent is on a much longer contract, so we've got a better chance of getting a good price.

Rowe will be on his extension clause at the end of the season, so we could end up with nothing if we don't sell him quite cheaply.
