'Things we missed from Mag friendly '

Recommended Posts

I think everyone has a right to their opinion, I too am fairly worried by a squad that struggled last season, and now weaker.

I do hope that these people that constanstly say pant wetter and such do appear here at Christmas and apologise.

Preseason is precisely that - over the years we have often gone into the season looking fantastic and failed badly, or dreadful ‘form’ followed by excellent seasons.

We will not being going up, nor will we be going down this season. Mind reset needed for many of the supporter base.

Completely agree, Thorup also has to work with what he’s got and there are players that might not be suited to his style. It’s going to take a season..

I post this most years so sorry if I'm boring some of you.

Many years ago with Dave Stringer in charge we lost 2-0 at Ipswich in the last pre season match. We were absolutely awful and we spent the journey home pondering how we were going to avoid relegation.

We went on to finish 4th (I think) in the old First Division.

You say struggled....but we did finish 6th (should have been 5th)

Had the 3rd best points total in the league from Jan 1st onwards

Unbeaten at home since November

..and all with having our best striker out injured for the first half of the season

We may look at last season as being a success if we really do 'struggle' next season

Knapper has made a call that he wanted to remove a manager that got us into the playoffs in favour of a personal ideaology of how football should be played, in his view.

If it doesnt work, its very much on him

I think we have some good players. Do they want to play for Norwich? Not sure.

Think we will do fine at home, not so sure in a cold/rainy day away from home.

Not surprised over the transfer. Think we want more then clubs are willing to pay.

Mid table her we come

Ohh, an a binner "friendly". Why do I get the feeling that's something that's probably never going to happen again?

Quite so - we’ve had some pretty awful preseasons followed by very decent runs, and vice versa.

I do have nagging concerns that trying to change things using the same personnel is very hard - many seemed to think there would need to be a lot of changes that haven’t happened - but fundamentally football is a pretty straightforward game, and players are adaptable.  Most of the goals conceded preseason have been from stupid loss of possession (Sainz more than many) so sort out sloppiness, get a few bodies in and we should be fine.

We played them in ‘hospital cup’ games for several seasons - but I think it was decided that hospitals were already busy enough!

Anything to latch onto to keep the misery and bile flowing.

Some people just can't let go and move on to start fresh. They NEED to feel some sort of anger/disappointment to keep the juices flowing.

We've had many woeful pre seasons followed by a great compeitive season, and we've also gone unbeaten in pre season then suffered relegation to league one.

Must mean Citeh will be relegated to then as their pre season results have been poor.

So when we turned over Marseilles 3-0 at their place a couple of years ago,we were certs for top 2 under Smith, with two goal Hugill a regular starter and good to emulate Pukki's feats that season?

Remember the pre season under Gunn we looked brilliant only to loose on that infamous day against Colchester !!!

All will be well and all manner of things will be well

A lot will depend on which players we are left with at the end of the transfer window.

Knapper made the massive call to sack Wagner, a manager who had a lot of respect from the players. Will Thorup get the same? I'm not really seeing a clear direction at the moment and this is still very much Wagner's squad.

Patience is required, but if all we are going to see is Hanley and Duffy failing miserably to pass the ball out from the back and keep conceding silly goals, like we always do, then patience will run out pretty quickly.

And there's me thinking I was one of the grumpier ones 🤣

Hate to tell you this but Julian of Norwich was probably a paranoid schizophrenic.

To anybody that actually went to the game on Friday.
Did you actually see a difference in the way we played.Did we actually play with a back three with Stacey playing more as a wing back.Did the player on the right come inside to make a midfield 4 or did one of the midfield drop back between the two centre halves as they did last season.Did they progress the ball forwards faster or was it the same as last seasons effort of playing slowly out from the back.
That to me would be the only noticable change from last season,I am afraid that I dont quite understand what 'controlling the game with possessive aggression' (I think thats the phrase that was used) actually means.

Yep, happy to. What’s your offer if we look fairly safe at that stage?
