dylanisabaddog 5,633 Posted July 21 The Olympics starts in Paris on Friday. Chariots of Fire is on TV at the moment to celebrate 😂 There is a programme on C5 on Tuesday which sounds good about how Britain staged the 1948 Olympics with no money and very little notice. Apparently we got a Gold for poetry! And the marathon was extended by 365 yards so that the King could watch the end without the inconvenience of having to stand up. Please post any recommendations. Someone told me this morning that the speed climbing is very good. Hmmm.

dylanisabaddog 5,633 Posted July 23 Andy Murray has announced it will be the last time he plays. I know he's done a lot for British tennis but I think I'd rather have seen someone younger given a chance.

Also, she has said it was out of character. Does she mean out of character to abuse animals, or out of character to be filmed abusing animals.
Yellow Fever 4,236 Posted July 24 Am I the only one who really isn't much interested in the Olympics? Bidding for the Olympics is always the one I want to lose - as per many other countries. Unless you want to wave the flag (c.f China) it just ultimately costs billions and for what? I suspect many Parisian bushiness are wondering just that at present with the lock downs! What else is on the telly (in full grumpo mode)

The Raptor 1,441 Posted July 24 While playing in France Argentina had a goal disallowed by var well into injury time. Not long after their players were videod singing derogatory songs about the french... Who guessed that would happen!
Nik Vawn 302 Posted July 24 (edited) Fiji look unbeatable again in the 7’s.. Shame that GB couldn’t qualify, very disappointing. Great entertainment live on iPlayer. Edited July 24 by Nik Vawn

GodlyOtsemobor 2,784 Posted July 24 Love the athletics, can't wait, watch diamond league regularly. Makes the missus laugh that I very rarely follow any GB athletes though 🤣 I follow the person rather than the nation when it comes to athletics.
dylanisabaddog 5,633 Posted July 26 The opening ceremony starts at 6.30pm on the Seine. I'm sure it will be very good but it obviously won't be up to 2012 standards. Do your best France. Bless.... The Russians have been doing their best to spoil it for everyone else.

It is insane, you would swear it’s the camera which is at an angle, not the surface they climb.
Nik Vawn 302 Posted July 26 Having had the misfortune to experience the way the French organised games at the Rugby World Cup I have to wonder if they have learned any lessons from that fookfest, I sincerely hope that for the sake of the spectators they have! Nik Vawn 302 Posted July 26 So far the opening ceremony looks like a cheap old job and to send the refugee athletes up the river, in an old boat looking like it may sink, really is beyond belief!!

They clearly haven't. No-one will ever beat 2012 will they? One of the most incredible opening ceremonies I think we might ever see.

Improving a bit now; some great shots of Paris, but more for the camera than the spectator, yes London opening was amazing

The Raptor 1,441 Posted July 26 So you're saying my decision to watch the Norwich game was right? You sure? Random activities that should be an Olympic sport. What are we thinking? I'll start with gull gauntlet. You start in a car and have to get safely through a door 50 metres away attracting the attention of as few of the 20 gulls in the area as possible. You wear a suit a bit like in fencing that detects if they strike you. You're allowed a giant box and large stick for protection.
