I saw him fly past along Salhouse Road a few years ago in the Tour of Britain. I'm glad he got the win early. He might have half an eye on Cipollini's most GT stage wins for a sprinter. Two more wins equals it, three beats it. The guile he showed to win yesterday was up there with some of his best TdF victories.

I hope he doesn’t beat Cipollini’s record to be honest, Super Mario was the standout sprinter when I was most interested in the sport, a great athlete, big personality and with film star looks. I rode the same stage the day before. I missed him at City Hall a few years back as again I was riding the sportive but apparently he was eating ice cream just before the start. There's a very good documentary on Netflix - crikey did he have some horrific crashes. Love him or hate him he is totally driven.
