horsefly 5,307 Posted August 15, 2024 Reminds me a bit of Hayden. Had a very good reputation but the last 2-3 years has been injury prone and form spiralling downwards.
Trevor Hockey's Beard 613 Posted August 15, 2024 Phil McNulty has the promoted 3 down for relegation, Â ie Southampton 18th, Leicester 19th and Binners 20th, so he's not signed up for the love-in.
overthebordercanary 167 Posted August 15, 2024 He might not be very good now, but at least they are trying to sign defensive midfielders. How long have we be without Tettey with any hint of a replacement even being thought about?

Ekoku: The Ambassador Of The People 125 Posted August 15, 2024 Phillips was terrible last season. Wife and son support West Ham and went to the odd game here and there last season and he was woeful. Really has lost his confidence and is a shadow of the player he was when at Leeds. He’s overweight and offers nothing off the ball, which the Binners will not be seeing much of. Another signing that will confirm the pending relegation
Mutley 190 Posted August 15, 2024 4 hours ago, Old Shuck said: Their signing of Phillips could go either way-he might be a bit of a sensation, a' la Barkley with Luton last season or he might be truly shot, form, confidence and fitness wise. Barkley was certainly a success at Luton and was able to resurrect his career resulting in a move to a champions league team in Villa. Phillips could do the same, but it will all be about his hunger. However, even if he plays back towards his best it will probably/hopefully result in relegation just like Barkley at the Hatters.
Carrow89 273 Posted August 15, 2024 The sense of desperation becomes ever clearer as the transfer window closing gets nearer. Unlike us they knew from May what money would be available yet here they are dragging in some has been, with a fortnight to go, and McKenna admitting they still need more signings. The PL is a massive step up. Clubs with some of the worlds best player,s as so many promoted clubs now find. The binners hope to rise to that challenge ..........with some of the better players from the Championship. When they can sign them, that is. Sammie Szmodics ongoing saga drags on. He's at CR on Saturday, which suggests nothing is imminent there. Looking down the A140 and the sound coming out is that of air escaping from a slow puncture. And it all seemed so promising a couple of months back. What a shame.

Phillips can sit on his **** for a while yet and still receive the coin from his Citeh contract?

Worthy Nigelton 1,334 Posted August 15, 2024 It's potentially a brilliant signing. It's also potentially a terrible signing. Be interesting to see how this goes. He was so bad at West Ham last year but he is a PL player if fit and on-form and in a position they desperately need.

I agree that he is not showing his best but they can’t all be Deli Alli surely?! The other measure is, would our fanbase think it was a good signing for us if we had been promoted. I think there’d be a majority saying yes, with a hope that he regains form but nonetheless feel there’s every chance it’s a bit of a potential coup. I hope he’s still dreadful obviously
Up and Away 121 Posted August 15, 2024 (edited) Staying up for a newly promoted side is tough, as we all know, but an even bigger challenge if you have got promoted back to back seasons. While Ipswich's signings to date clearly improve their first team, they may well not be enough to ensure PL survival. Ipswich certainly seem to be targeting young squad players from PL sides, and the best from the Championship last season. As bad as Phillips was at WHU last season, he got good reviews from the Man C pre-season US tour,  so a fresh start, and not playing for David Moyes, may do him wonders.  I suspect Ipswich will not stay up, but it will be interesting to see if their recruitment approach proves more successful than City's last effort in the top division. Edited August 15, 2024 by Up and Away

They should have had the squad pretty much sorted by now, not still scrabbling around for players, a couple of days before the season starts. That Phillips was still 'free' suggests others do not see him as a PL player any more, meaning the binners were probably able to pick him up a bit cheaper. Mr Tea 140 Posted August 15, 2024 I can see them doing a Luton but scrapping in to staying up. as others have said and it’s pretty obvious, a good start will make or break their season .

Capt. Pants 5,152 Posted August 15, 2024 It's a decent signing. Play against Morsy and Phillips and you will get bruises. Will it be enough?

They seem to be held together with rubber and magic. Can't bring myself to say they'll definitely struggle, but Conor Chaplin isn't going to be enough. Morsy will struggle in the PL. Every game is analysed to the nth degree. What he got away with in the Champs will be exposed in all its glory in the PL. Often too slow in the tackle, I doubt players will now be even slower because it is the PL.
