Nothing to do with white knighting…it’s about being sympathetic to a certain audience, let’s not forget that the female game is growing massively in England particularly at youth level, when these young girls watch England who do they have to aspire to? The likes of Carney and Ellen White.

To you maybe they don’t have the authority but there are some of the audience (not me) who their views will be very relevant

on that basis what authority does Ange Postecoglu have on giving his opinion on the English football team as an Australian - answer he does as a former international manager, these girls are former international players for England like it or not

Postecoglu?...a manager who's not only managed an international side but is operating in English football where he is managing players and competing against players not only in the Emgland team but across the whole tournament??

But by your reckoning he isn’t English so isn’t qualified to speak about it

look I’m not going to argue about it, you have your view which is fair enough and I respect that, it’s a shame we can’t all agree on why it’s important we have a wide range of pundits from all different walks of life, age gender and nationality

Surely in an ideal world it's less about variety and walks of life and more about quality of the pundit. Ange Postecoglu was the only pundit worth their salt on the coverage yesterday.

Where did I say that?

I generally have the sound off while I’m watching football-even if it’s Norwich. But watching on Italian tv was funny yesterday, the commentator pronounced most of the England players’ names with an extra syllable on the end-so Rice became Ricer, Foden was Fodener, Bellingham was Bellinghamer. The only one who escaped was Kane-who was called Harry Kane every time.

Yes, like quite a few eventually on here, I just go and do something else outside of the live action. I'm so surprised people get wound up by pundits, they add very little to my enjoyment of a match, I like to make my own mind so never watch the pre-match build up or the half time punditry - its just plain daft.

Gone are the days of Cloughie telling it is like it is. IMO as soon as manager's were dropped from being the only ones being asked for their views, and it got taken over by ex-players / professional pundits needing to demonstrate personality to connect with the audience, is when I disconnected!

The best punditry as always is provided by my mates. And much of that doesn't have anything to do with what we are watching.

Didn't like the use of the latin word "****" 🤣

why do you think she was chosen?

Clearly to give BBC executives something to laugh at when the inevitable wibble of people like you who feel compelled to whine about women pundits rather than just turn off their TV occurs.

All the best,

Now answer why you think it is?

Nothing to do with sexism before you embark on your white knighting crusade

Its about giving an opinion from a standpoint of authority and experience, of which they just cannot

So you feel the same about any of the hundreds of print journalists who have never played a minute of tournament football?

And you pay no attention to Davitt & Southwell & Seaman because they never played pro football?

Because women and girls play and watch football. Why do you think it is?

I'll take Karen Carney over a complete hack like Phil McNulty, who's the chief footy writer for the BBC. He's made a living off writing tosh, and there are far better football journalists/pundits around.

What's McNulty ever done to you, that's the 2nd slagging today? 😉🤣 Did he not pay you for some work you did for him?

I misread the thread title as Karen Canary and wondered why so many people were commenting on Captain Canary's new friend!

Time to visit my optician. 🤓

TBF I also dislike McNulty's writing. It might be that his brief is so wide-ranging that he cannot be anything other than bland & middle of the road.

When I was at school boys played football and cricket girls played netball and hockey, that was what I was taught and learned. And from what I’ve seen of womens football I can see why it was this way.
