Trevor Hockey's Beard 577 Posted June 1 It is still one of the most exciting games I've ever seen at Carrow Road. I was in the River End and had a great view of the flight of Peter Morris' goal, and I remember going completely mad when it went in. A proper game with a punch thrown, and not even a booking. On reflection I feel that it would have been good for the game if QPR had won the title that year, but we were so the underdogs on that day that it felt such a sweet victory. Besthorpe-48 110 Posted June 2 Yes one of those games you remember. I was in the river end underneath the old scoreboard standing next to the home secretary a decent one nation tory called Jim Prior. Since when we have had Patel and braverman. How times change. COYR .
Corbs1 136 Posted June 2 I was in the River End, one of my most memorable games. As time has gone by I’ve reflected more on the Rangers side. I still can’t remember seeing a better club side, and it feels odd that they clearly could (should of, if you are Robert Elms) have won the league; but now they never will. The Raptor 1,475 Posted June 2 My birthday. A quality date. Although 2 years before I was about. It is better than the only game I remember going to on my birthday though. That Middlesbrough defeat in the play off season. Was also the date we got promoted at Charlton from league one. We couldn't all get tickets for that so ended up watching it in a bar in Camden
RobJames 922 Posted June 2 QPR came to Carrow Road for their final game and a win would secure the title - they were one point ahead of Liverpool. A draw might even do if if Liverpool failed to win by more than two goals. 30,000 were packed in, and City spoiled their day. Liverpool played later that day, and won. Nicking the title at the last gasp. And would go one to win the European Cup the following spring. First English club to do so Short clip in colour - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_w0ekQv3fI Longer clip MOTD b/w with Jimmy Chin - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80IEO7qO94c Interesting stuff from QPR fans on the game - https://qprreport.proboards.com/thread/21770https://qprreport.proboards.com/thread/21770-

I have no idea why. I think Man Utd were the first English team to win the European Cup. They did it the year after Celtic won it with a team of players all born within 40 miles of the club. Yobocop 1,397 Posted June 3 I was a glint in my dads ball bag at that year having not been born until 1986 great seeing these old clips though, more of these throughout preseason please
In my blood 95 Posted June 3 Not sure if it was this game but I remember Bowles getting some chants about his wife while waiting for a corner in the penalty area in front of the Barclay. He wasn't impressed. But, what a fantastic city line up and a joy to watch. Left school in '76 and never missed a home game for the next 6 years.

The same with Liverpool, and so the title was not actually decided on this day. Liverpool v Stoke and City v QPR both kicked off at 3pm. LFC & QPR both won their 41st and 42nd League games but, due to being in a European final, Liverpool played their last League tie four days after the domestic season had finished. As LFC kicked off their 42nd (and last) match of the season they were a point behind QPR but with inferior GD, so they needed a win to secure the title. They won 3-1 at Wolves, after going a goal behind. And, as others have said, Man Utd were the first English to win the European Cup, in 1968.
Sheva 146 Posted June 3 Remember this game very well, had the perfect view of that Morris goal sitting directly behind the shot., lovely strike from strangely disappointing man. Gerry Francis was the main man at QPR, fantastic midfield player of the time, also maverick Stan Bowles and 2 real tough guy defenders Webb and McClintock. Martin Peters was class on the day, as was Phil ‘Charlie’ Boyer, a very sharp player. Ted McDougal was Ted McDougal, ball in the net, no frills, a complicated guy but underneath a nice person. How time flys!
