A seat for under £12 in today’s money.

I'm pretty certain that as an 8 year old I paid the equivalent of 12.5p to get into my first game in March 1968. That's 2 shillings 6 pence in old money. As at today's date that is less than £2 adjusted by inflation.

That's for the River End with a 2.5p transfer to the South Stand.

£2.71 in today’s money! Can’t get a sausage roll for that now in the concourse.

Aah, I remember those days as a 13/14 year old, waiting for the Barclay turnstile to open (1 o'clock?) the open toilet block, very intimidating for a youngster. The hamburger stall where they remained warm in hot dog flavoured water, little blue invalid cars taking up their positions pitchside...jumpers for goalposts...

And showering with Grandpa’s best mate in the hot summer of 76.

A friend of mine played for the first team in 1982 and was paid £500 a game (including win bonus which was why they all had all liked Justin) . That's the equivalent of £90k a year in today's money which is probably around 10% of the amount our current players earn. And that was in the old First Division, now called the Premier League.

The money earned now is obscene (even at Norwich) I wish I’d made it past Barwell Town when I played.

50 years ago Norwich prices compared far more favourably with other clubs than they do now. Almost certainly true 20 years ago as well.

Can you not just enjoy a bit of nostalgia without turning it into a stick to wave?

I read an article recently about the boys pen at Everton. It certainly wan’t a place any 21st century parent would let their child go to!

£38 for a season ticket in 1980. According to the Bank of England calculator that’s £158 today.

£1 in 1973 (the smallest I can do) is £10.51 today.

Shows how much of a rip off football has become

You can scale it. There's no magic woo going on between what £1 in '73 is worth today and 50p, so £5.26.

Even in the late '80s I can remember there being a big price gap between standing and sitting, so that'll account for some of it.

“Boys” . So presumably girls couldn’t go ? 😀

Of course not. Girls were meant to be at home darning their father's socks.

Isn’t it just, my sisters did babysitting for pro footballers in the early 70s. They lived on the same street as us too, how times change.

Reminds me of this.

We made us own fun in them days
Do you know, when I were a lad you could get a tram down into the town
Buy three new suits an' an ovvercoat, four pair o' good boots
Go an' see George Formby at the Palace Theatre, get blind drunk
Have some steak an' chips, bunch o' bananas
And three stone o' monkey nuts an' still 'ave change out of a farthing?

There has been some free matches at Fortuna Dusseldorf this season albeit that they can't afford Tsolis.

Tzolis

Or is yours from the Latin rather than Greek!

Not really-look at other prices on the leisure industry, look at average wages, look at the stadiums. Times change. Once upon a time it was considered acceptable to watch from the Nest!
