Well that seems a pretty clear statement of intent on top of what Knappers already said.

Just occurred to me I wonder if he’s part of the reason we took an extra year on Sorensen as Thorup was a Danish National youth coach and paths may have crossed. Might be a player he sees something in for a rebuild.

As a few have said, good signs if this was the initial target.  Sky sports said that work permit has already been agreed so pretty much a done deal.

In regards to bringing through youngsters I had a look at Thorup when the odds were high on him initially and Nordsjaelland is a club who 'do things different' as per this vid from 4 years ago:

He's been there since 2015 working from the youth, through to assistant and full-time manager last year.  It sounds a wonderful club, and could be a brilliant fit for us.  Let's hope he can bring some of his backroom with him who share the same ethos.

Big mistake letting McCallum go

we have an ageing squad who really aren’t that good

He needs to move Barnes, Hanley, Duffy,  Fassnacht ,Fisher, Long for starters

Fisher is 20.

We've also just released two of our centre backs, will be lucky to hold onto one of our two best wingers and Gunn is entering the last year of his deal.

There are more emergent things to deal with than trim the squad in places that don't need it yet.

I'll have a pint of JHT please.

A new beginning but we shall see.

Expectations will be high, probably moreso than had we gone with Cuesta or Still. Was expecting us to go with Jansen for some reason.

Can't help but wonder if the Attanasio affiliate club/ player trading concept has looked at the work at FCN, having watched that. Wonder if Arsenal were one of the PL clubs that sent someone to learn from them 🧐

Good news is, although I know nothing about him, he appears to have been our first choice which is always positive.

So was Dean Smith .............apparently

I very much doubt he’ll get to throw a ton of wages at an aging group of ‘mr-right-now’ players with no resale value from his mate the Sporting Director as he drifts out the door, so quite possibly not.

shorttermismout for sure. Success might well be harder to achieve also.

Parma

I am fine with that.

I wonder if Sorensen getting another contract was to do with this? I do get the impression that we sometimes try to build connections to help new players. Obviously they have to be good enough to be in the squad but I think we have seen that Onel has helped Sara and Nunez amongst others. It may also be that we are looking at some of their youngsters and what's better to have than a Dane who is settled into Norwich/Norfolk life to help settle them in?

Hmm

So basically the team he managed is a funnel to get players from Africa, add value to the raw talent and sell for profit?

A very different model to us so this will be quite a change.

I do not think we can create that here (visa rules etc)... I think a lot of clubs have deals (used to be Belgium) so they can profit from this type of operation.

I hope he is able to develop our young players with the same success.

I don’t think everyone will be fine with it. ‘Not being the previous incumbents’ won’t help if the results aren’t good enough. We saw that in Farke’s first season when huge numbers didn’t renew.

It’s a new era though and a clean slate. That can only be good.

This is a massive wildcard. He seems to be a real favourite with players. Excellent youth pathways. Just looking at the FC Nordsjaelland squad, it's so young and yet they are consistently over achieving. It's a really risky move, but fascinating.

Would be the second youngester manager in the Championship at 35. Always interesting seeing managers that are still young enough to be playing managing a side.

Interesting that the real task of that was given to the head of their accademy and we also have an opening...

I don't think methods have to change, just where we source youth from is different. Denmark is a nation of just under 6million people. About half the population of London.

Despite that half of their team is still going to be Danish.

Translate that to here... 50% of the first team being homegrown accademy prospects and the other half having been sourced from elsewhere.

Great player too.

Perhaps he'll know of a defensive modfielder we could us?

What Essien does will be interesting. He could take over as manager there. His Ghanaian so clearly has a connection and important part to play there.

I was wondering about this too, it seems as though they dress it up as a 'scheme' of some sorts.  Perhaps there's something in that, can we do something here and class it as charitable work in other countries, and players come over into the academy as part of some 'work experience' plan for example?

When you see players like Sarr and Dennis for Watford it did used to make me wonder why we're not so active in the African markets.  But I think they both came through European clubs first?

Saw someone post that apparently he likes to play fast attacking football but could be accused of defensive naivety. Isn’t that a bit similar to Farke?
