Yellow Fever 4,316 Posted July 4 Just been to the hardware store. Completely sold out of wooden stakes and holy water. More hopefully, I hope the 'exciting' discussions post exit poll tonight will mainly be on who the official opposition will be.

Well b back 3,570 Posted July 4 I see the stock markets over the last couple of days ( especially today ) are finally wiping out the Liz Truss rubbish. Previous years at the thought of a Labour win, let alone a landslide, the markets would have crashed. I see swaps are also improving.

ricardo 7,843 Posted July 4 I have just been down to the polling station to exercise my franchise (they can't touch you for it). Slow but steady voting in Norwich South. One person coming out as I went in and one person came in behind me. Clive Lewis certain to win with massive majority. No Binface standing here so I spoilt my ballot in the usual manner. yellow hammer 107 Posted July 4 At. The polling station it was 99% elderly voters. Reform are going to exceed all expectations. Possibly 20 seats and 20% vote share

You starve communities of funding, give them no hope, let areas to rot even more and then use your mates in the media to blame the poorest and weakest in society, or some foreign entity, to scapegoat, and parasites like Farage feed, with ample presence in the same media outlets. You can blame the "left" for trying to point out what is going on or you can take responsibility, for once, in helping to create people like Farage. And no, some old bloke moaning about him on a football forum doesn't help give him attention. Not fixing the rot helps him thrive. 15 hours ago, Herman said: Reform/Brexit or whatever they call themselves this week are a response to the failure of the last 14 years of misrule. I emailed some councils asking to attend and only one replied saying no.

I went to the borough election count last year and there are limited numbers available, so not a surprise that they wouldn’t let you in, the rules are pretty strict. Understandably I guess. Understandably I guess. Just as an aside I heard something the other day that intrigued me. The postal ballots (say 20% these days) arrive 'early' of course - and are opened (but not counted) under the eyes of the political 'agents' as per the count itself. Nevertheless the agents watching may get an early 'feel' for the way things are going (beyond any polls) which no doubt does find its way back into the 'fight' before the actual polling day. It’s all data but I’m sure the postal vote over-reflects certain demographics more than others so it’s an indication only.

Whether that means they get to see every vote rather than votes getting opened at a table. Maybe if the votes are sorted into piles according to party

I'm just going to watch the announcement of the result which I think is open to all.

Yes it does but it varies from one constituency to another. The parties get a list of postal voters and in my village they were predominantly older people. That's based on the 'fact' that I assume bungalows are usually owned by older people.

Maybe if the votes are sorted into piles according to party As I understood it only opened and validated but NOT sorted into piles. It may give somebody who can count a rough view only but nevertheless in some areas could ring alarm bells (early). Anyway. As I've stated before I think postal votes need scrapping. Electronic and in person only - both on the day only. After all HMRC are all but foring us to do tax returns online.

cambridgeshire canary 7,565 Posted July 4 So far lowest I've seen reform seats estimated at 8. Highest at 15. So I suppose if you want the middle ground.. Predicting 11 seats probably seems about right?
Yellow Fever 4,316 Posted July 4 (edited) Make of this what you will - I'd equally suggest a lot of people wanting to express their opprobrium of the incumbents. Tories claim voter turnout higher than expected The Conservatives have claimed voter turnout is higher than expected and that they have a “MUCH better chance” of winning the election than polls have predicted.
