Fire sale starts today

Recommended Posts

Huge cash flow problems now, we have to sell before we buy.

Get Idah out if the door to Celtic, won the league there won’t want a Championship challenge next season, on a ridiculous long contract, get £6M and get rid.

That will pay the bills until June.

Who’s next?

I actually wouldn’t be surprised if Portsmouth make a bid for Kamara and we take it.

I can also imagine Sara ending up somewhere like West Ham. Tzolis should go, finally. Rowe will have some suitors, I’m sure - abject as he was last night the lad has a special something for sure.

I don’t imagine there’ll be much clamour for the rest of them, though.

Been saying for a while that I'm getting Mumba at Plymouth flashbacks when I see Kamara.

Its clear he's loved his time there.

Long, Sorensen, Gibson, Tomkinson, Dimi, McCallum, Batth, SvH, Idah, Tzolis, Rowe and Sara to leave on various terms,

Sargent, Nunez, Gunn, Sainz depending on requirements after that.

Big summer of change

Of the players still under contract, the ones I'd be trying to move on are the 'experienced' trio of Duffy, Fassnacht and Barnes, even though the latter has been very good this season. I doubt they'd fit in with what the new model will look like.

I wouldn't actively try to get rid of the stalwarts Hanley or Hernandez, but wouldn't be opposed to them leaving if the deal is right and we've already got upgrades in the building.

All out of contract players can be released bar McCallum, who I'd offer a new contract. van Hooijdonk, clearly, will not have his loan made permanent.

Sara and Rowe are the two likely big sales to generate funds. Tzolis will bring in some cash as well.

I'd like to keep Idah as I've always felt there's a player in there that will come good, but it depends on if he wants to stay in this environment where a lot of fans have turned on him, despite the fact he has always given everything for the shirt.

We have to keep Kamara and play him. If Rowe goes, as expected he is a ready made replacement.

Agree. Sainz and Kamara are nailed on starters with Nunez and McClean, Gunn and Stacey. After that I have no clue

I think we will only sell two of the crown jewels of Sara, Sargent and Rowe. Everyone else who we want to keep we will keep.

I think we will only sell one of those and it definitely won't be Sargent - far too many questions over several attributes to be Premier League ready.

I expect a decent clear out.
I think we will sell Gunn, Sargent, Rowe, Idah and Sara.

I expect we will try to move on Fassnacht, Baath, and Duffy.

personally I expect Kamara will stay, as will our best two young centre back options.

there will then be a decent number of incoming players….

Fire sale (noun): a sale of goods or assets at a very low price, typically when the seller is facing bankruptcy.

We are not facing bankruptcy, and we will not be selling our assets at a very low price.

Happy to be of service.

I had humble pie for breakfast and it sounds as though you ate the dictionary!

I think most people on the forum have more in the bank than Norwich, cash is king, we can not start spending until we’ve got deals in place to take others off the wage bill.

The season may be over and plenty out of contract but we’ve still got to pay then for their services in June.

Ha! I'm an editor by profession... I try not to be too pedantic, but the misuse of 'fire sale' on here annoys me every summer! 🙂

I see where you're coming from, but with Attanasio on board we can bridge the financial gap for a month or two. Gibson, Giannoulis and Batth will almost certainly be leaving, and if we can get an early deal done for Sara or Rowe that'll give us more than enough scope to go into the market.

If the club get acceptable offers for players who need/want to move on they will doubtless take them. Its business

A general reset is required - new manager, new ideas, young blood being developed please

I like Jack Rudoni who just got relegated with Huddersfield, 22 and worked his way up from League 2, played nearly 200 games already. Strong 6ft 1 inch all round centre mid with a goal in him.

We need to return to trying to scouting out affordable players who can go up another level.

If we are going to be selling off the family silver then at least need to ensure we reinvest wisely.

Peterborough seem to have found another good one in Kwame Poku.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't still look overseas, but buying the best from the division below used to be our bread and butter and seldom went wrong, and Peterborough used to be a rich source of City players.

I hope by "reducing the age of the squad" and a "player trading model" this is the type of business Knapper means, and not just being wholly reliant on our academy continuing to produce.

We can't get rid of Sara AND Sargent..... there is no way we can afford to replace two big photos on the outside of the ground 😜

Absolutely he isn’t PL ready, But there are other top leagues in Europe he could do well in

Peterborough have also got two very highly-rated young defenders in Burrows and Edwards. Could they be of interest, considering we need major surgery in the back four?

I hope so, whilst I think Sara is the better player with a brighter future in the game, I think Sargent is more valuable to us. Ok, he's been absolutely dreadful recently, but he's clearly playing when not fit. A fully fit, injury-free Sargent is easily a 20+ goal a season striker at this level and will be difficult to replace without breaking the bank.

I doubt Attanasio has invested so much of his money and time into Norwich just to standby while the best players are sold off cheap. He wants Norwich to get promoted, not knock about mid-table in the Championship.

Quite so.  Some seem to always kneejerk to the worst case scenario, but you’re spot on.

Clearly some will leave - that was always on the cards, it always happens and we need to freshen up, but it won’t be a ‘fire sale’ to the extent that some are suggesting.  We’d hardly be able to attract a decent manager if he had to perform with both hands tied behind his back.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but we thought Pukki would be nigh on impossible to replace, and many of us (myself included) cringed at Sargent's previous attempt at being a PL striker. But in the right system with the right players providing chances, I think we could easily find another striker who could score 20+ Championship goals.

As we found out when Buendía left, that wonderfully unpredictable flair and technical ability, providing double figures in goals and assists, is probably harder to replace like-for-like.

One thing is for sure, though – lose them both, and we're in a lot of trouble.

Please let this be the year we move on from McLean. Please.

He's been a regular in one successful team from six years at the club.

Cash flow unlikely to be an issue with Attanasio on the record that he will extend loan terms/provide short term support etc.

Wage bill will need a major cut. It was around £55m in the last set of accounts. It will need to be closer to £20-25m next season given loss of  parachute payment, with club revenue likely to fall from around £75m last season, to around £30-35m next season.
