2 men arrested after game

Recommended Posts

EDP still like most happily carrying the story. After reading comments on WACOE which are incited by this guy and the press reports, even though he has now said he lied about the knife, I am seriously considering wether it will be safe to attend on Thursday.

So even after the Norfolk police statement and the guy admitting he was lying about a knife and a slashing the EDP have decided to carry on running with the story !.

What a sorry state of affairs that even our own local press are not prepared to question the story and happy to see our fan base put through this prior to Thursday. Thanks for your support guys, maybe the story is correct even though the evidence is stacking up that it isn’t. But if it is proved not to be true, then the club should stand by us and not work with the EDP, at least for a few months.

It's weird isn't it? We have @SouthwellC coming on here to ask us to stop speculating on Duffy's car accident, when what had been mentioned on here was reported verbatim by the BBC 30 minutes later, having run their story past the club and the local constabulary. Then the EDP print a tweet as if what was stated was absolute truth and nearly 24 hours later it is still there, when it has been easy to find out that tweet was a load of rubbish (even now accepted grudgingly by the original poster). Sure a dust up occurred between two groups of fans looking for trouble, but at any other ground two arrests and a fan with a cut on the chin would not warrant comment.

Come on Newsquest, you've had your clicks, time to update the story. As soon as possible please to stop any nonsense at Thursday's match.

Spot on, sadly most media is all about the clicks so our supporters reputations come second to putting food on their table.

Basically what has happened is a Leeds fan has gone looking for trouble, got chinned and had something thrown at him and there's some claret on his shirt. He's now a bit sheepish as like all bullies he didn't expect to get it back at him and feels a bit silly so he's claiming knives were involved to save his dented male ego.

Moral of the story is don't start fights if you're not very good at them. I learned that a long time ago.

If so and he has any previous, why then did Leeds United facilitate his attendance at such a high profile match when they had many many other respectable supporters who would have liked to attend? This is the kind of question all Clubs should be asking.

The idea that the troublemaker was a resident Carrow Road dog walker is ridiculous.

A little like Football Clubs, it is only the commercialism that matters rather than community.

They probably already have their stories written in for Thursday, Norwich Supporter stabbed in revenge attack, or Norwich fans attacked inside / outside the ground, partly incited by them.

As I have already mentioned I am lower Barclay and I heard no mention of, let alone songs relating to Gallatasary. Did anyone anywhere ? And as I left the ground not far from where this happened everything seemed rather subdued and flat.

I suspect that's because Connor is considerably smarter than some on the news desk.

Are the Senior Staff at Carrow Road smarter than the junior ones? I would go the other way round.

My god you're wet. You were terrified of going to Birmingham. Now you're terrified of going to Leeds. Have you ever left Norfolk!? Don't think football is for you either way. Leave it for the fans with a bit of back bone.

All the best.

Why are you trying to make such a serious situation fit the vendetta you have on the club. This is a very serious situation, being reported ( according to Norfolk Constabulary and the man himself ) by both the person and the media. If you look at WACOE you may grasp how serious this is. I appreciate that some people are all mouth, but unfortunately some aren’t and are quoting articles such as ‘ their own ( EDP ) local rag ‘

Do you really think Leeds check police records for their fans attending away matches. If that's even permissable, and given the time frame...

Zip your colours under a jacket until in the ground, and hang back a bit after the final whistle as I find that the most likely time for trouble is at the exits immediately after the final whistle.

Leeds will no doubt have to shell out for a larger police presence now, will have been bumped up the categories. Sure you will be fine.

I suspect/fear many of them will be on the pitch celebrating with a pitch invasion at the final whistle.

It's our player's safety that I'd be more concerned about

Great post.  Think someone needs to have a chat with the news desk. Looks like they might have been hugely irresponsible.

Would encourage NCFC fans to complain about this irresponsible clickbait. Could well have put City fans at risk on Thursday night.

The man with the blood stained shirt appears right at the start of that clip, and whilst blood stained doesnt appear to be traumatised by the event.

not sure who is being wrestled to the ground, but this appears to be after the event, so doesnt show the incident.

@SouthwellC

Not so much 'have' but still are.

What is up on the EDP site is a story anout what was claimed. Fine. that was what was known earlier this morning. More has since come out that disproves that claim.

The EDP have been made aware of this, if only through emails I sent to the nrewsdesk and the editor - doubtlessly others have as well.

To not update te story smacks of incompetence, more so given how quick they were to remove social media posts re Duffy

This has been picked up by the national press, who will not add any correction, merely letting the story slip down/off the page thereby leaving their readers with only this 'Norfolk Slasher' view of things

I think the words " A Lie Is Halfway Round the World Before the Truth Has Got Its Boots On '’? fit well here.

What I wrote, if it's of interest:

It was exceptionally irresponsible to publish on Facebook that a Leeds fan had been stabbed outside Carrow Road on Sunday, before you'd checked the facts. It looks like your only evidence was a tweet from the Leeds fan's son.

It is now looking increasingly likely that there was no knife involved, rather a thrown drinks can. While all violence at football is unacceptable, there is clearly a big difference between a scuffle that got out of hand and someone taking a blade to the football. Hopefully the more accurate version of the story will reach Leeds fans before the second leg, but it seems very likely to me that many Leeds fans who saw your post will go to the game thinking that one of their number was stabbed on Sunday. And given that Leeds fans are understandably particularly exercised by knife crime at football grounds, this has the potential to lead to nasty reprisals. I think your desire for clicks has potentially put fans of both sides in danger. I hope you will follow up the story and give the less sensational truth as much publicity as you gave the shocking original report.

Many thanks for taking this feedback on board.
