Gordon Bennett 901 Posted May 12 (edited) Ultimately today has to be judged after Thursday but we really could have done with a lead. Whatever happens over the next couple if weeks I think we will see a more forward thinking manager/coach IN charge next season. DraytonBoy 246 Posted May 12 I don't think Wagner was brave enough today, Leeds were very nervous at the start and City should have capitalised. That said, 0-0 going into the 2nd leg is okay but they need Sargent to recover from the knock on his ankle, the possibility that SVH leads the line on Thursday as the only fit striker is beyond comprehension. I don't think it's got anything to do with Wagner. I think we were set up well. Leeds aren't a rubbish side and we know Farke as well as anyone. We didn't create enough chances when we had the possession to do so. That's not on him. He won't have told the players to shank shots or not to shoot or play good balls in. It was brave to give Rowe the start, it didn't pay off. It is nice to take a 1-0 lead over any team into the 2nd leg but in reality, it's slim pickings. It's not really enough to be confident about. Used to be that if it was an away goal it'd be really worth having. I think that's why it felt Leeds weren't going to push hard for a goal and leave themselves overly exposed to a counter attack.

Rowe def not match fit. But defensively ok, Gunn protected well, kept them at bay. It’s up front we were poor. Never looked like scoring. Even less so when El Sid came on. BroadstairsR 2,272 Posted May 12 Wagner is a defensively minded manager blessed with exciting attacking talent and a bit of a dodgy defence, although the latter isn't as bad as some like to make out.

I couldn’t help thinking as Rowe went off on 60 minutes that it might have been better to have saved him to come on later in the match

Been saying this all season, not going again until he is a memory Can we assume you won’t be posting this depressing sh*t either? Please?
dylanisabaddog 6,042 Posted May 12 Just a word about refereeing and consistency. It may not have affected the game but there were 3 clear incidents of shirt/short pulling by Leeds players but no one was booked. We got caught once and Stacey was booked. I must admit I don't know the rules but if it isn't an automatic yellow it should be.

We kept a clean sheet against Leeds today with a “very poor” defense, what would it look like if we were better? Negative goals against?

dylanisabaddog 6,042 Posted May 12 Although we were poor, so were Leeds. It's likely the tie will be decided by a set piece. I suggest Sargent spends the next few days practising going down 25 yards from goal.
A K Narey 235 Posted May 12 We will probably end up regretting that we did not score when on top in the first half. Although another 0-0 on Thursday and winning on penalties does fit with Wagner's modus operandi! OTBC

Capt. Pants 4,914 Posted May 12 Largely a ****3 performance. Wagner put out our strongest XI, Rowe and Sargent were utterly woeful. Distribution from the back was horrendous. That ball over the top to beat the Leeds high press seldom looked like working. Neither fullback got forward, we lacked ideas. Leeds will be delighted, but we're still on the tie. I must admit I don't know the rules but if it isn't an automatic yellow it should be. It is. The nonsense surrounding “blue cards” was on display today. The blue card debate was for “cynical” fouls. We saw at least three first half - the classic “take one for the team” stuff. There was no difference between Stacey’s and a few on the first half . The ref had decided he needed to “manage” the game on 60 mins. Not on 20 mins . As usual , pathetic interpretation.
Ken Hairy 4,272 Posted May 12 I thought 2nd half we showed our complete lack of depth in the squad, absolutely nothing on the bench to change this type of game
JamieNorfolk 79 Posted May 12 Considering the season & roller coaster we've been on, I have no idea why there's any negativity on this forum after todays result at home to Leeds. Remember October / November? Regardless of results on Thursday, imagine if that level of performance continued. Quite nice to be able to say Sargent had a **** game & it was right to take Rowe off for Fass in comparison. I enjoyed today, Nunez MOTM for me. On to Thursday.
