Leeds or Saints?

Main thing is we’ve made the play offs. A real achievement from the position we were in earlier in the season. 
 

But today we didn’t play to win. Nor did we play to chase the draw. I get that we didn’t want to risk injuries and didn’t need to do anything other than narrowly lose. But hardly a confidence boost. 
And in losing we now face Leeds.
So can we assume Wagner and co would rather play Leeds than Saints over two? Or that they just didn’t care?

 

I struggle to see us beating either over two legs given Wagner tactics, but none the less can’t help but feel that getting Leeds and Farke is the tougher semis proposition.

Leeds look like they might give us a helping hand. Their confidence is shot, as long as we don’t lose the first leg I fancy us.

Yeah, agree with that. I fear we're going to feel like we missed a trick today.

But in the team's defence, it was an odd situation today. Never easy psychologically when your main objective is to avoid disaster, and your secondary objective is to avoid injury. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Leeds have been pants for weeks and absolutely blew automatics.

I don’t think it matters much who we play but I’d rather have Leeds.

I think we’ll need a two goal advantage, which will lead to them desperately chasing their home game and us countering them.

Good time to play Leeds as their form is sh*te and their manager has been criticising his players for lacking experience. The fans are moaning and it won’t take long for them to turn against their team at home

Normally I would have said Southampton, but Leeds are struggling and is coming under fire from some fans, despite getting 90 Points. 

Tough either way and Leeds over two legs will be very tricky, but if we can get a decent result at home, who knows.

We’ve been pants in tge last three games too! Makes for an exciting couple games! 
Realistically both have dodgy defence and it’ll be the team who is the bravest going forwards will probably win over the two legs! Duffy & Gibson fill me with dread!

Thing is of the 3 teams in the play-offs they're all somewhat bogey teams for us. If we somehow triumph we'll deserve it because beating any of them is a tall order.

Southampton we never seem to do well against. I didnt want it to be Leeds so so be it.

The reality is for us to deserve promotion we have to be able to beat teams like Leeds, West Brom and Southampton, so in the end it doesnt really matter who we play.

 

For the record I think our chances of triumphing are slim, I think Southampton and Leeds are far better than us, havent paid much attention to West Brom this season. 

If we get West Brom in any final we win through to then we'd be more evenly matched, but I cant see us triumphing over Leeds or Southampton.

Just enjoy the ride I guess!

It's a good time to play Leeds although our recent record against them has been rubbish - 4 games, 4 losses. Something has to give.

If at the start of the season we would have been offered a play-off final against WBA or Southampton we would have taken that.

There's absolutely no point getting to the play-offs unless you win them. It's in our hands - over to you Wagner.

Im concerned weve struggled in two home games against bristol c and Swansea. 

These were games we were supposed to be motivated in to seal our playoff place and get over the finishing line. We didnt.Today weve lost to a relegated side when again the motivation should have been there. We've secured our playoff due to other results.

If we couldn't get motivated in these three games, how will Wagner get them motivated in a playoff game.

Thankfully form doesn't count for much now

What was the motivation today?

Barring a ridiculous result all the players knew was incredibly unlikely, and certainly would have known wasn’t happening at half time, the only motivation was to get through without being injured.

No players leaving the game today feeling unmotivated they failed to beat Birmingham, it was a match they just needed to get through unscathed both individually and as a team.

Been having a delve into WACCOE and it’s hilarious. A lot want to see Farke drummed out of town and most are resigned to another season in the Championship.

Strange that a few on here felt any muppet could get that Leeds squad in the autos. Turned out a predominantly League One squad did that. It's a monumental failure.

This isn't going to be decided after the 1st Leg. I'd be more concerned if we went there all Wagnerlike defending a narrow lead.

I can see it going to penalties.

I think they were told to not make it an open game until the last ten minutes. The ultimate aim today was ensure we stayed in the top 6. Many on here were confident of an 8 goal swing to Hull, was never going to happen. As we left for the game, breakfast was in maccies which was full of Baggies fans. They were desperate to get Leeds in the s/f, who knows if we were as well.

If we can overcome Leeds, I reckon Southampton would be an amazing day out with 2 friendly sets of fans. After saying that we would be more likely to beat WBA based on the games this season, but only just.

It is what it is and I'd rather play Leeds now than in the final. A Farke v Norwich final would be too much. A final against Southampton or WBA wouldn't have that twist in it (depsite the Martin connection)

Maybe not in so many words. I also imagine subconsciously that’s what a lot of the players were thinking.

We were so ponderous in possession, we had loads (far more than we have this season usually) and did virtually nothing with it. I can’t believe that wasn’t deliberate.

As it was at Norwich where some fans didn't rate him, there are some fans at Leeds who don't rate him - but as at Norwich - there are many at Leeds that do rate him and think he should stay long term.

Although with us he didn't completely bottle it with one of the best, most expensive and deep squads in the league!

Given the fractious state of the squad he inherited, some say he has done better than expected. At the start of this season the mantra was don't expect too much....but then some fans do expect too much.

Very few are saying that now. And being unfortunate enough to have family that are Leeds fans I speak from a pretty solid viewpoint. They think he threw it away and are losing patience when they see 50 passes resulting in no shot on goal.
