There are rumours afoot that several Championship teams are in for this player, and even though he's with the team that got relegated by a mile, he's always looked a quality player when I've caught glimpses of him.

Apparently there's a relegation release clause in his contract of £1m.

Just for the record, I'm not saying "sell Gunn", but I do think this guy could be a really good back-up or should be a very useful option if financials mean we decide to sell Gunn anyway.

"if financials mean we decide to sell Gunn anyway."

eh ?.

Gunn is in the his last year of his contract. If he goes it will be HIS decision, not ours.

Undoubtedly there will be offers from PL clubs.

It could be that he signs another contract.

However the idea that we could sell him like something sold at cash converters is absurd

I do believe his contract expires in June 2025.

I don't really understand anything about this comment. He's about to enter the last year - if he doesn't sign an extension, chances are we're going to sell him, though I'm not sure about the undoubted offers from the PL.

Angus Gunn is clearly a very good goalkeeper and, like many in the position, has improved with age and experience. I do not actually think that he is as top-notch as some seem to think.

I also feel that the fee Southampton reportedly paid for him of around £13.5m will be the absolute limit of his worth. There were mutterings at the time that even the £9m we reportedly paid Saints for him was too much, and I was one of those who mostly preferred Krul when they were in direct competition at Carrow Road.

It has become a funny situation with 'keepers nowadays, with many Premier League clubs prepared to fork out multi-millions for even a back-up, so it is difficult to assess his worth should he want away before his contract ends. Personally, I do not think we'll get all our money back should he be transferrable for a fee rather than leave as a free agent. We might though.

I'm not so sure about his loyalty to the club and the area as some seem to be. He did after all leave City for a tribunal fee of £250, 000 chasing the big bucks in Manchester.

Citeh have made the most dosh from this player by far, whilst Southampton have made the biggest loss.

In ranking terms, I do not consider him to be the 'keeper his old man was, was inferior to Krul (at his peak) and would come a shout behind John Ruddy and may be a few other good 'uns we've had in the past.

For some reason, the goalkeeping position has always been a strong spot for Norwich City with few periods of exception ... Marshall, Green and even Fraser Forster spring to mind in the period between Gunn Snr. and John Ruddy, and going back in time, this theory stands up well.

For this reason, I conclude that if Angus wants away (again) then I would hope that we get our money back (would it need to be this Summer due to the contract situation?) I would then put faith in our stable of young 'keepers to fill the role. Barden seems to get better and better now that his illness is over and is reportedly back to his best (see Wagner's recent appraisal of the young man) whilst Reyes came to city with a big write-up, and these are not the only current contenders.

If Angus wants to stay, then it's fine with me unless his wages become prohibitive and a compromise cannot be reached and in that case we are best served by cashing in asap.

He would undoubtedly get a higher wage further up the ladder.

So much depends upon the outcome of those play-offs.

Whilst I don't disagree with all of this, i do think you are being a bit harsh on him, he is definitely lower half prem quality, but, where does your £9m that we paid for him come from? It was reported as "only" about £5m...

I think at the time we bought him it was £5m and the club said the add ones were pretty much impossible to hit

Yes, and I too said reportedly £9m. Add-ons always complicate things nowadays. Either way, the Saints caught a cold with the boy.

Harsh? May be. He failed at Southampton, but has improved a lot since then, to the point where he is a full/regular first choice international 'keeper for Scotland.

I've got no axe to grind with him but I don't see him as a Premier League keeper. The two goals conceded at Sheffield Wednesday suggested that he can be bullied.

I said about this keeper on a previous thread. Absolutely miles better then the team he plays for. Would be a great replacement if needed.

Exactly my thinking. Gunn's got a year to go and IIRC there were rumours Celtic might have been sniffing around with Joe Hart on the way out. Gunn's a Scotland international and moreover, Idah's already at Celtic so they could be asking him for more info. If we could sell Gunn for a few million and get Johansson in at that one million fee I think that would be a very canny bit of business.

He'd be a hell of a number two, but I can't see him coming for that as a Sweden international.

Maybe to warm the bench, or a promoted team. I can’t think of a team that will stay up that would make him 1st choice.

Depends on Gunns ambition and financial expectations, he’s already seen what happened to him at Southampton.

He’s Scotland no1 right now but don’t see that continuing if he’s not club no1.

I think there’s a good chance he signs a new deal but it’s whether we can afford it.

I would bust the bank to retain Sara.

I would bust the bank to retain Sargent.

I wouldn't do that to retain Angus Gunn.
