Robert N. LiM 6,284 Posted April 15 (edited) The Private Eye tribute poem writes itself, given his nickname. Before my time as a cricket fan, but clearly one of England's greats. RIP. Or, more appropriately, given his profession, Rip. Edited April 15 by Robert N. LiM

dylanisabaddog 6,146 Posted April 15 Very sad. The Knott Underwood combination was excellent. Time for an awful admission. I watched test cricket a lot in the late 60's/early 70's when Underwood was regularly referred to as the night watchman. As a 9 or 10 year old I assumed he was some sort of security guard and felt sorry for him having to work all night and play cricket as well.
shefcanary 2,955 Posted April 15 Deadly was a great watch on those BBC2 marathon watches of the early 70's. A true master of his craft. RIP Derek.
Capt. Pants 5,009 Posted April 15 Yeah part of my 'childhood' when I watched cricket intently. Unplayable at times in the right conditions. RIP
ron obvious 1,711 Posted April 15 Something about him epitomised cricket for me. Quiet , modest unassuming, but deadly on a drying pitch. Nostalgia is built into cricket. I feel quite teary at this news. R.I.P. Derek.
A Load of Squit 6,260 Posted April 15 I grew up watching the John Player Sunday League games on the TV, Underwood was a star in those games, no-one else bowled like him & no-one else was as good as him.
Graham Paddons Beard 2,791 Posted April 15 Everyone loved Deadly. What a terrible shame . Fantastic off-spinner. We should never have agreed to cover the pitches.
Faded Jaded Semi Plastic SOB 1,223 Posted April 15 (edited) Was lucky enough to see "Deadly" in action way back in 1987 in Edinburgh v Scotland in the Nat West Trophy. Rest in peace Derek wherever you may be................ Edited April 15 by Faded Jaded Semi Plastic SOB

BBC 2! When any team that scored 200 in 40 overs was mind blowing.
