Needs some 1:1 coaching on this. In todays Preston game I gave up counting after he got to 5/5 crosses that were very ineffective. I actually think Stacey is superb, I would not swap him for Aaron’s. Bigbrenn 86 Posted April 14 Perhaps Stacey is coached to get corners and not be too fussed about an early ball? His speed means his targets in the box are few and not renowned at headers. Failed to find a yellow and green shirt with any of his 11 crosses into the area throughout this contest. The most frustrating moment came in first-half stoppage time when he hesitated over a ball into the box after Sargent had made a darting run to the near post. He's no Sara for sure, but Stacey has been through spells this season when his crossing was more effective. How much luck and how much judgement comes into the art can be disputed, but I suppose numbers count, and yesterday they all failed. I remember when Ruel Fox ended up at Spurs. My Spurs supporting friend didn't rate him as he said that he 'couldn't cross a ball.' I didn't have the ammunition to argue with this, but always regretted Ruu-el's loss to City nevertheless. Dean Ashton kept mentioning it, but it's been obvious for some weeks. More involving his final ball than his crossing then, but vs Swansea it was his limitations with that which were picked up on, over and over. With a bit of tinkering - stay wider (almost hug the line) when we are in possession and I believe we'd start to see a better Jack Stacey and better build up play overall. But I'm not actually including Saturday and the 11 wasted crosses in that, because I have been thinking that for weeks. But Wagner has already said that it's down to the players to adapt and stick to the role they are given - presumably even if the player has other strengths which are then unused, or is particularly weak in one aspect like Stacey's distribution and final ball.
