Barnsley thrown out of FA Cup

Recommended Posts

Feel a bit sorry for them, sure it was a genuine error. But rules are rules.

Great news for Horsham though, if they manage to beat Sutton Utd, they'll be in round 3, and might even draw one of the favourites such as Arsenal, Man City, or Ipswich.

Indeed! The South Folk natives are certainly hyping up their apparent 'massive club' status with the owners busily drafting up plans to increase capacity to ...............'35,000 - 40,000' if local stories are anything to go by.

If those stories are true unlike Norwich City i doubt if they will just kick the can further down the road.

Barnsley thrown out of the cup...

Immediately turned into a binner stick!

Amazing stuff together...

Essex would have been proud of that.

Given only a few seasons back they were getting between 16 and 17 thousand fans at home wonder where all these 40,000 fans to attend have come from?

Alive and well thanks.

The Barnsley issue once again demonstrates the poor quality of football administration.

As for Ipswich ground capacity let's hope our American owners can show similar ambition rather than simply financing the sins of the recent past. Then again we could start off by achieving more occupancy of the seats we have got but that would require some quality administration.

Similar size club but they have the feel good factor from top to bottom at the moment. It must be a decade and a half since the board here started talking about a new stand. You can only hope Anttanasio can make it happen because there was no hope with S&J running the show.

The admin teams only have one job to do and Barnley's couldn't do that, so I have no sympathy for them.

The Binners face the same challenges as us with regards to stadium expansion although may find it slightly easier to relocate some of their 21,000 season ticket holders. Zoe described our expansion costs as something like 'astronomical' so it will be interesting to hear how much it will cost them, and how they fund it.

They could run a “Be a Binner for a Day” scheme… Form an orderly queue, chaps!!

If only we had increased our capacity, when we went up a few years back. There would not be those scenes, seen outside the ground this season with thousands clamouring to get in. Our away fans at Cardiff could only stare in envy at Cardiffs  forward thinking, and spending.

That's what we need on top of the City Stand

What relevance does that have to Barnsley being thrown out of the cup ?

Indeed. They have shown zero ambition to expand the stadium (other than forced to by old South Stand nearing closure on 'safety' grounds) in almost 30 years!

It happened to Mulbarton last year. They weren't sure when the players ban was or something so they played him anyway. Fools!

Good luck to Horsham in the next round

One would refer you to the original post.

So because Barnsley may play Ipswich if they won their next game, that makes a post about Ipswich's ground relevant.
Maybe I should have posted about Spurs' catering facilities or Wolve's changing room decor, being equally relevant.

Ipswich..... ahahahaha....

.....remember,  the last time they expanded, they went into administration and took twenty years to recover....... fingers crossed 🤞

Barnsley are owned by Americans - is it what we can expect in years to come?

There was certainly a lot of envious posts when it happened. Now it's all about how long before Carlisle breeze past them...

This article is so depressing ....

I agree. The positivity in the article makes you feel sick. However, as I said to a binner the other day ‘will history repeat itself’ with their massive ego leading them once again to build beyond their means and lead them into administration.

When they built the Pioneer stand in the 80s it led to them losing their best players, then in the early 00s the building of two extra tiers at both ends led them into administration. What will it do this time?

From our perspective it will be very interesting to discover what their expansion will cost as it looks like another 6k seats which is approximately what has been mentioned for us. Once upon a time we did build the ‘Reeves stand’ with his transfer fee, but I’m not sure we have a player to sell that will finance the building of a top tier on the miniature stand.

It’s not that unusual for sides to get such a ban in the cup, particularly early doors where club admin can make errors - but I imagine it is rare for a professional side.

Binners plans appear to be to demolish the Cobbold Stand which I would assume will be 'cheaper', than the complex solution we're looking at, however I still think they might be underestimating the legacy costs of a likely relegation from the EPL even if they get there.
