STOP EXPLOITING LOYALTY

Recommended Posts

Loyalty is often exploited by business - too much - and football clubs have to resist the temptation to do what so many other companies do.

I'm not going to get into an argument about whether NCFC exploits fans, but in the end it is a balance that clubs have to get right. They need to make money out of supporters, but in a way that doesn't appear exploitative.

Whenever I think of loyalty I think of the AA (the motoring org, not the alcoholic one) who hike the yearly cost exponentially. You can get it down, but you have to question them and they, like so many other businesses hope you are muggins enough to just pay it without question.

Football clubs need to be careful!

There's also the other side of the coin where many fans support the club without paying a penny into it.  You can visit forums like this, social media, youtube features/highlights, radio norfolk and feel a large part of the club..  And there's absolutely no paywall there.

Also, context - Going up to games myself there's no issue with pricing, but if we went as a family it'd be an impossibility for the season, it's hard to justify that kind of outgoing to the club.

It really is a hard balance to get right.  I'm not sure it's a question of exploitation or simply supply and demand, though.  I guess we'd find out if we expanded the ground.

It’s not loyalty though. People are loyal to brands and companies but if push comes to shove they can choose a similar product or company if they wanted to.

Football clubs are more akin to family.

You can’t just choose another if you feel exploited and that’s the issue.

To be clear I’m not saying NCFC exploit anyone, just pointing out Football clubs (and any sports club really) are nothing like a traditional business to their consumers.

David Mellor did (and he wasn't even being exploited) 😉

Lol, I meant the one you’re born into, but it’s a hard analogy. I struggle to think of almost anything that people can’t fathom giving up on as much as their sports team.

£103 highest price ticket for a Cat A game!

Arguably nothing to do with loyalty as they are non season ticket holder part-time fans. Exploitation more than not recognising loyalty, but then the customer always pays, especially in football.
