Would you be so kind as to tell us who the player is, and who he has been sold to? I've spent about five minutes Googling various iterations of 'Manchester City academy player sold £17.5 million', but I can't find any links.
Jim Smith 2,610 Posted August 4, 2023 Carlos Borges to Ajax. https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-city-transfers-ajax-borges-27454947.amp
Old Shuck 291 Posted August 4, 2023 Ajax will probably sell him for £40 million in eighteen months or so. Seems if your model is buy low and sell high then the former price is getting bigger and bigger in terms of initial outlay.
Ulfotto 798 Posted August 4, 2023 Signed as an 11 yr old from Portugal. The mind boggles at the reach of the big teams.

I wondered about that but it wouldn't be a huge step up would it? A bit gutting for him when you consider the calibre of clubs that have been mentioned in the past

If you read the article it says Citeh have inserted a buyback clause as well as a 20% sell on clause. It's a cracking deal for them if he becomes another Haaland.
Branston Pickle 4,149 Posted August 4, 2023 I think comparing this guy with any of ours is a bit ‘wonky’: anyone at Man City has the world’s best players ahead of him. In the last year of his contract, and given many supporters reckon Max is defender who can’t defend, £10m or so isn’t too bad.
A Load of Squit 6,260 Posted August 4, 2023 Ajax are prepared to spend a lot of money on a Man City academy player & Man City can buy him back. Southampton paid £13m for Angus Gunn from Man City, he didn't play for the first team This is just how football works. Why are people surprised?
Move Klose 303 Posted August 4, 2023 They sold Gunn, Bazunu & Trafford for about £40m combined in the last few season, 3 GKs who cost them next to nothing leaving without playing a senior game of football for the first team. The list is massive of players they've signed for a few hundred thousand and sold for millions. Players you dont even realise were on the books of Man City, like Douglas Luiz, Pedro Porro, Brahim Diaz, Jack Harrison etc. Whatever your opinion is on the strategy it certainly works for bringing in money for them.
