Jim Smith 2,578 Posted June 27, 2023 (edited) …… not of a new sporting director but of a recruitment agent to try and find a new sporting director. Despite the fact Webber told us he was leaving several months ago. Couldn’t make this stuff up. Great to hear also that the owners will continue to “not take any risks, in terms of investment.” How thoughtful of them. Why can't we be more like Derby, Hull, Cardiff, WBA, Swansea, Huddersfield, Blackpool, Wigan, Stoke etc. This 'living within our means' has cost us, whereas those clubs have been a roaring success.
Google Bot 3,922 Posted June 27, 2023 I had to rewind when I heard that as I first thought she meant a new SD would be this week, then realised it was appointing someone to help source the new SD. Seems there's a lot of stalling and waiting going on, can only presume the Attanasio's are a factor in all this and want to get fingers in the pie at this crucial fork in the road.

I always favour a fork in the pie rather than fingers .........crucial and so much less messy 😊
Branston Pickle 4,138 Posted June 27, 2023 A little surprising but not that big a biggie If someone (ie SW) is working their notice period and it’s a long one. The key time was/is always going to be the summer window and it was surely too late for anyone new to come in in a meaningful way.
keelansgrandad 6,680 Posted June 27, 2023 A bit confusing. Are they saying they don't have enough contacts within the game to put it about that they are after someone to replace Webber? A man who has told the footballing world he is leaving. Has nobody phoned up to say, I'm interested or What are you looking for in the job. Considering so much other business in football is done in Motorway Services or Hotel Bars, it does seem a bit weird to appoint someone to do it.

ZW said they’d populated their own list and recruitment consultant may add to it with names not previously considered. Given the time taken in planning for transfer windows and the one year rolling contract was always going to be Webber leading this summer. Jim being negative for the sake of it on this occasion perhaps ??
Mason 47 1,908 Posted June 27, 2023 Am I the only one that heard what she said as 'we've been looking but haven't had much success, so we're appointing an external agent with better knowledge of the wider industry to help out'? I also think the further the next guy can appear to not be 'a Webber signing', the better in terms of getting the fans onside. Doesn't seem anything untoward to me at all but y'know, club-beating sticks come in all shapes and sizes.

Happy to be shown I have no memory cells at all 🥴 Edited June 27, 2023 by Mark .Y.

I thought she'd said they'd already spoken with people but had decided after no luck to recruit specialists at trying to source. Which isn't that surprising when there's such a small pool of people with anywhere near the experience Webber has. As I've always said, he will be difficult to replace with someone better no matter how much people don't like him.

danielsroundabout 9 Posted June 27, 2023 Webber's time at the club is very much a tale of two halves, wonderfully successful initially and pretty woeful thereafter. It strikes me a little unusual that he remains in place working his notice. Here, we have a man structuring our rebuild and then leaving before we get to judge the results. That he is strongly rumoured to be joining a Championship rival makes his presence even more questionable. A previous post on this thread was critical of our owners for not following the lead of other listed clubs in not chasing success with more (borrowed?) cash. Could it be that the manner in which £55m. was sprayed up the wall two seasons ago, has deterred them from that idea? Such terrible recruitment that the purchases were not only not good enough for the league for which we bought them, they were not good enough for the league to which we were relegated.

norfolkngood 1,172 Posted June 27, 2023 i do not mind a Recruitment agency taking a look for us , i do not want a mate of Webbers etc i want someone who is good and if it takes someone to find the very best we can hire / afford in World football hopefully a outsider might find this . with Positions at the club we should always as high as we can afford / interested in coming here . That is why i was so disappointed in Wagner appointment

Maybe 2017/2018 Webber with a fair wind and a dollop of transfer good fortune is more difficult to replace Webber of recent seasons is a total bust. “Backbeat , the word is on street that the fire in your heart is out”. Nothing lasts forever and that includes Webber. He outperformed for 2-3 years then regressed dramatically to the long term mean as all unsupportable trends do. 2020s Webber as far as recruitment and comms is concerned is replaceable by Blind Pew with a pin

vos 175 Posted June 27, 2023 Surely it is in Stuart's best interests to keep ticking over in his notice period to enable him to give him plenty of time to pursue all the possible offers for his services and it is basic human nature that his wife supports his goals. So it is quite understandable that there has been no rush to find a replacement and the combination is acting in a completely legitimate manner. Having said that from the Club and supporters viewpoint it is far from satisfactory particularly as the departing SD is recruiting players for next season and may even join one of our biggest opponents. Even worse there will be more delays because the CEO now does not think she has the capabilities to find a suitable new SD. For us find us in this shambolic situation I am afraid it is the direct responsibility of the aged owners. As I have already said elsewhere we desperately need an experienced business man to take the helm.

Terminally Yellow 2,614 Posted June 28, 2023 Focus should be on the rebuild and giving Wagner every tool needed to succeed. Second focus should be on completing the take over. Third focus should be on getting the club ready to go for the new season. Replacing Webber comes 4th in our priority list right now given he's contractually obliged to be here until March. Replacing Webber is more about finding the right person than making a quick appointment and we have no rush given his most likely destination have said they won't make an appointment until October. I expect the new season will start and we'll see things on this front move quickly. To see the usual suspects have a hissy fit over the club appointing a recruitment consultant is not a surprise.
