Clueless Smith being clueless again?

Recommended Posts

From BBC

"Not a Leicester fan but why have they left 2 of their best attacking players on the bench and picked three pondering midfielders when they need goals to stay up? Does Dean Smith have a clue what he's doing?"

The 2 best players left out includes one James Maddison.

Odd choice on the face of it, I’ll grant you, but Madders was pretty rubbish last game…as they all were tbh. Maybe he’s unwell/injured?

He is on the bench

I think he’s trying to keep the goals against column as low as possible going into the weekend, obviously hoping that Bournemouth do them a favour on Saturday

I think he's probably resting them with an eye on their final game against West Ham. That game is far more winnable for them. WH safe and likely resting players for the cup final.

Leaving out Barnes and Maddison seems very curious, but I still wouldn't put it past Leicester to get something tonight; after all, Newcastle have nothing left to play for. However, only a win would do for Leicester, so I'm sure we'll see Maddison and Barnes for a decent chunk of the game if things aren't going well.

Leicester's only win in their last 14 games came when neither Maddison nor Barnes played.

But in every other league win this season, both of them have contributed at least one goal/assist each, with the exception of their win against Leeds where Barnes scored but Maddison was suspended.

I guess the plan is not to lose the game before you try and win it.

Pragmatic from Smith.

Exactly this, don’t rate the guy at all but clearly saw how Brighton got dispatched last week and has decided to go defensive, soak pressure up and try and get one on counter,

only problem is they have no outlet and Newcastle will inevitably break them down

How is this not a red card?

Reckless play, yellow

I’m sure we’ve all seen those given a red card.

Leicester had largely kept them at bay until the last few minutes - living dangerously…

He's  lulling Newcastle into a false sense  of security.

Pure genius by Smith.

If he can keep it 0-0 until the final 20 then bringing Maddison and Barnes on then could prove a masterstroke but we will see
