Old Shuck 275 Posted May 7, 2023 The campaign to big up Idah will, I am sure, be on of the clubs marketing campaigns over the summer. A big banner ad that features him looking mean with the simple heading IDAH. Think Ricky and "Who's afraid of the big bad wolf", that sort of thing. Pink Un will continue to feature him prominently. Hence, in close season IDAH: TIME TO DELIVER Then, in the days leading up to our first game... I'M READY TO FIRE US TO PROMOTION-IDAH The pressure and internal expectancy on the lad has been, and remains, enormous. The club are desperate for him to succeed, desperate to see that decision to give him a 5 year contract (I remain convinced no other Norwich player has ever been given such a long contract) as being the correct one and desperate for tbe fanbase to think, "...well we don't need to replace Teemu, we've got Adam Idah ready to bang in 25 goals this season". And he might. He might. Is that a gamble worth taking? If anyone had been THAT convinced about him then why hold onto Teemu, why take up the contract extension last summer, why try to persuade him to extend it again this summer? Mixed signals. ...

What about lauo of reading? Big CF looked decent in the season reading did well? Homegrown doesn't mean where you were born. So that makes Hanley and Krul homegrown despite being born in Dumfries. Equally so is Idah and come his 21st Birthday as will Omobamidele. The homegrown rules coupled with the U21 rules have essentially utterly failed at their desired outcome.

KeiranShikari 1,524 Posted May 9, 2023 Just seen somebody on Twitter pointing out that Krul 'liked' Barnes' instagram post saying thanks to the Burnleh fans. In today's money I think that means that he's on his way.

Newtopia 563 Posted May 12, 2023 Depending of wages he will be a great addition to the squad, almost the perfect Pukki replacement, as long as he is playing a role which allows and supports Sargent and Idah to develop.
CanaryLegend 19 Posted May 12, 2023 I was in Manchester this week for a conference and randomly spoke to a Burnley fan. Said Norwich have an amazing player who will give his everything. Said he was disappointed about him not staying with them in Premier League. I said about his age and lack of goals on paper but he seemed to think I need not worry and thought we had done really well.
Driver 9 Posted May 16, 2023 (edited) An insight into Bashley. I am gutted he is leaving. He has given his all for the club and never gives less than 100%. He is also very underrated. He changed his game to suit Dyche's tactics and was used as the big battering ram up front. Under Kompany he took time to get used to the tactics and struggled. He admitted he was 'crap' and thought after Sunderland away he was finished but after scoring two in the Rovers match he has been superb. He hasn't been an out and out forward in this system and has been playing deeper to bring others in to play. He drags defenders out and this leaves room for the others. He can control a ball and has a good passing range (as shown at your place with the cross field pass he did.) Don't turn your noses up at him just because of his age. He still has a lot to offer and I doubt he would let you down. Most Burnley fans would be more than happy for him to be given a new contract. He is the type of player that everyone hates but would love in their team. Edited May 16, 2023 by Driver 3

Thanks for sharing, I think we need players with more physical presence and determination... although it does sound like he's an intelligent player too. I guess you'd have to be to successfully adapt from Dyche's tactics to Kompany's... 😉 Good luck in the PL next season, have really enjoyed watching your team this season and I hope you stay up.
BroadstairsR 2,272 Posted May 16, 2023 The more I read about the player, the more I like it. Burnley fans haven't a bad word to say about him. Let's just hope that this signing represents a turning point in the club's dealings in the market which have been somewhat astray, to say the least, in the last 2-3 seasons. Capt. Pants 4,780 Posted May 16, 2023 I just hope he still has the hunger that he had at Burnley. Plus its down to our Coach to get the best out of him. It will be interesting if we use him as Dyche Barnes or Kompany Barnes.
Indy 3,431 Posted May 16, 2023 As positive as it all sounds I’ll reserve judgment as we had the same with Naismith with Everton fans. If Barnes comes with the energy, attitude and motivation said by our Burnley forum and fans then he’s exactly what we’re missing, trouble is he’s been at Burnley a long time, new club he might not be so motivated by. Time will tell and we hope he’s that link we need between the midfield and Sargent.

I think it's a decent and much needed signing in terms of experience and having a 'bit about him' but I do have a slight concern. He clearly wont have the same affection for Norwich as Burnley and I really hope he is coming with a point to prove still rather than the idea of a nice couple of years to ease him into retirement. Time will tell and we hope he’s that link we need between the midfield and Sargent. @Driver, do you think Barnes has the footballing intelligence to operate as a number 10 in a 4-2-3-1? My fear is that we persist with this nasty 4-3-3 affair and we see people such as Barnes, Idah, Tzolis and Dowell (I know he's leaving!) shoe-horned into wider positions that don't really fit their skill sets. I shudder at the prospect of Sargent, Idah and Barnes all on the pitch together; in my opinion, we need to revert to that narrow 4-2-3-1 formation that worked so well under Farke. Any two from Sara, Gibbs and Kenny in the two (and hopefully a brand-new DM option to throw into the mix too), then Barnes behind Idah, and some combination of Onel, Nunez, Tzolis and Rowe in the nominal 'wide' attacking positions that Cantwell and Buendia usually inhabited under DF (and hopefully one other attacking midfield option, assuming that Rashica leaves and Placheta isn't persevered with).

Sargent's never gonna fall short in terms of attitude and work rate and it should help him that there's another player holding it up to release, or is good enough in the air to win flick-ons. And Mumba should be on the side of that 3 in the 4-2-3-1. Just wind him up and tell him "get the ball on the half-turn like ol' Stiepi did, and cause as much carnage as you can!".
