Funds for players

Recommended Posts

Funny that everyone is talking about the tight budget and purse strings yadder yadder. Weren''t we told that by terminating the contracts of unwanted players early that we were freeing up wage funds for new arrivals. Weren''t we also told that we would not sign players in June/July to avoid paying wages for pre-pre season. What has happened to these funds and why are they not now being made available as a matter of urgency.

Considering we have a club that is "the envy of the first division" and "a sound financial ship" compared to other div 1 sides, and we have the catering booming at carrow road, season tickets to almost a record high.

Where has all this newly generated income gone over the last few years??

And where would we be if the club hadn''t been overhauled a few years ago?

Easy - out of business. Although we are a steady ship, with all the improvements in income you mentioned, the club are still expecting to lose over a million a year. I don''t mean to be alarmist, because this is not an unusaul situation, it''s just that our board, rightly so, refuse to allow the club to spend beyond it''s means. Where would you rather be, frustrated because we have money to spend on a striker and can''t get one, or frustrated because all your best players are being sold off (or given away) like the family silver? Just ask West Ham, Sunderland or Ipswich fans where they would rather be.........

I can tell you right now where Ipswich fans would prefer to be and that''s with their board and not ours!!

All this we are hard up and can''t do this and can''t do that really is beginning to irritate. The Board should either back Worthy and strengthen the side damn quick or sack him and prepare to pay for a decent manager (Joe Kinnear et al) but tell him funds would be limited due to paying off Worthy and his exciting coaches etc.

Here we are one of the better off clubs in the league and all you ever get from Carra Road is how hard up we are. I say to the board, stop leaning on the good will of our fantastic supporters and start making some positive noises. Get Roger Munby to help in new player negotiation and not the Doomcaster. Sort our PR department out - the way the local TV stations treat us compared to Ipswich is a joke - don''t feed them such poor stories.

If the club is not already aware, I can assure them the essential extra 5000 to 10,000 support that we have had and still need is already drifting away. These people are genuine supporters but they witness the entertainment on show, hear nothing exciting to entice them to a Saturday afternoon at the match and stay at home. These are not the supporters like you and I who turn up come hell or high water, or like some of us to most away games. These are people who love the club and are essential for the future of the club but will be selective and will not doff their caps to the board.

I am sure the impression is not accurate but I just feel that board members are sitting on their hands and hoping something will turn up.

For God''s sake can somebody from the club tell us some positive news. At least Ipswich have daily feel good news items even if they are economical with the truth!! I would accept that so desperate do I feel at the moment.

Of course Delia and crew could always sell this very viable property company known as Norwich City Football Club. Go out of business? You must be joking!

Now I have been accused of yellow tainted vision but this is just insane. Bury Yellow have you any vision?

We are one of the better off clubs in this division and the fact that we have little or no money suggests just how hard up things are right now. The clubs with the most money are the ones owned by crazy millionairs who arnt really all that loyal to the club like Hammam.

Being stable is far more important than anything else right now because, unless you know anyone with millions to spare, there is no way of making back any money spent unless we got promoted and even then we would probably be unable to get in the players needed to stay up because of the money we would have to pay back! Just think about it for more than three seconds.

Sorry chicken, I''m with Bury Yellow on this one and yes I know, he''s a good mate of mine. This doesn''t alter the fact however that football is a risk game (with respect, you possibly work for a bank, Inland Revenue or a firm of accountants) and like it or not you will have to accept at the end of the day that fortune favours the brave. In my humble opinion (having been a director of a football club in the past and therefore knowing more than a few of the ropes) and in general terms, no risk means little success and little fun! By the way, I have certainly thought about it for a helluva lot more than three seconds! Come the crunch, who on earth wants City''s main objective to be stability? I for one want some excitement! The stability only comes with success...........I urge you to think about it!

all makes complete sence,i just hope the club can stop this nieve way of letting us all know who we are looking at and then letting us down, surely they must realise that they are stokeing up trouble if they continue to carry on so embarrasingly in the transfer market, learn from the francis deal, where very little was heard untill he was here, lesson to be learnt i think?

I''m not sure we''re missing the point a bit here.

I agree that we should be a bit braver in the transfer market.

I also agree that I would rather have a team to watch in the future, and not have all our prized assets sold (which at the moment would basically mean only losing McVeigh).

But to me the main issue is this - buying/loaning a striker is not being brave or taking a risk, it''s a bloody necessity!!! We haven''t got any left!!! I''m sorry, but i would score more goals than Iwan will this season, Notman is another dwarf and Jarvis and Henderson aren''t ready.

I''m not one to lose patience with Norwich football club, christ they''ve put me through so much in the past I can live with most things, but this is unacceptable. We are losing points, goal difference and most of all, the respect of the fans.

I don''t care who''s fault it is, just get it sorted and soon. Phew, I needed that rant.

I agree with you Mook, the point I was trying to make before was that a lot of players are going for silly money again. Hulse £750k plus add ons up to £1 million, same goes for a few of the players that we missed out on.

We defenitely need a new striker in, and one that can get goals and I would like to see them arrive on a permanent deal. I just think we have been so unlucky in the striker department lately. GG was a hot prospect when we signed him. As was Dalgliesh and now Abbey!

I just found this in the distant past (Sept 2003).........Not much changed over the years then?

I really see what you mean, Cluck ( I think not ). Despite all the gut-wrenching lamenting by some that took place back then, at the end of the 2003-04 season we were promoted as champions. Further, the critical comments by Bury Yellow on this thread in 2003 ( the Ipswich fans would rather have their Board than what exists at Norwich ) trailed off into silence as we won the division, leaving Ipswich 21 points behind in the process. If you are going to "dig for diamonds" try not to shoot yourself in the foot in the process.

Cluck, more personal attacks from you when you are faced with objectivity refuting the points you make with your constant attacks on the club. I will leave it to others to judge who the sad case is.
