He has had some stick on this Board of late but Rick Waghorns''s article of 11th March on the future style of English football is interesting and thought provoking.

I suspect a lot of people have read it but ignored it, because it tells some home truths which have major implications for those who believe it is possible, with the right manager, to restore our "golden era".

I''m sorry to say it won''t happen, because football itself has changed immeasurably in the last decade (arguably, not for the better). Because of the way it ended in 1995, we will never know whether, or for how long, it would have continued. We have no choice but to let it go, remember it with pride, and move on.

In all likelihood, the future won''t be better than the past, because the past was fantastic. What we achieved was beyond all expectation, and cannot be reduced simply to good players and good management. We were incredibly lucky to experience it.  Our youngest supporters of today never did, and probably never will.  Let''s not spoil it for them by souring the atmosphere in our determination to cling on to the past.
