Nope, he hasn't.

He owes £3.6m in income tax, and £1.3m in national insurance.

You are now being libelous. The court documents reveal the tax has been paid pending the appeal.

HMRC has lost 2 similar cases recently, one involving Lorraine Kelly.

Incidentally, everyone seems to think this is simply tax avoidance but it's highly likely that Lineker set up this arrangement to protect himself in the event of a divorce and the tax situation flows from that.

This is the point that many are missing. Starting points.  As we all know, Brexit is a sign of right wing politics becoming more prevalent and any veering to the right should be seen as potentially dangerous and faced down, which to his credit, Lineker is doing.

The BBC is in a no win situation, it relies on the government to support it's existence and it is constantly walking a tightrope to try and get the right balance.  In this situation, they probably felt they had no alternative but to react how they did.  Mentioning the Na zi regime of Germany is always a red light and perhaps this will be the start of a wider debate about freedom of speech, which is gradually being eroded.......just like in Germany in the 30's......

Where is this evidence freedom of speech is being eroded?

From what I can see, there has never been more freedom of speech alongside all the necessary tools for that speech to be seen or heard by the rest of the world..

On this forum its fine, we all ' know ' each other...and can filter the total eeejits who talk in memes etc.  Out in the real world , loonies of either extremes need ignoring ( apart from when they are planning actual evil) i do not believe @essex canary is evil , just a greedy , self centred boor.

As opposed to say, to sight 1 person in public life, an individual who pays £1 for shares which he later discards, earns a healthy salary as stand-in CEO whilst also masquerading as Chairman then demonstrates the frugality we may otherwise have seen demonstrated had he become Chancellor of the Exchequer by cycling to Carrow Road.

Not to mention those who passively accept such behaviour on account of their own self agrandisement plans.

Further breaking news - it's just been announced on the club's Twitter account that the match ball is standing down tomorrow in solidarity with Gary Lineker.

In light of this, the game has been postponed and instead Kenny McLean will be taking the lead role in a performance of 'The Scottish Play' on the pitch. Inflatable Lady Macbeth's and King Duncan's are available at the club shop now.

Love the Tory reaction. Send out the real leaders: Anderson and Dorries. Dorries tries a bit of pathos by saying she hopes he finds a streaming giant to work for. Just like her with GB News? And Anderson refers to Lineker's high pay, a sore point for many of us as well, but not relevant to the argument.

He probably is. Don't forget to mention his ears. And he has a younger wife. And a tight **** with his crisps from what I recall.

So how the hell has it happened that he is right about Suella?

Technically he is. A virtue signaller signals their virtue but does nothing about it. As to the swear word that is simply your opinions.

Can we just confirm then CanaryDan23 that the left are claiming Gary Lineker, who owes £4.9m to HMRC as a result of tax avoidance, as being one of their own?

Is he one of yours?

And none of this argument is at all convenient to Gary Lineker as it means the headlines are all about this free speech / impartiality dispute, rather than about the appeal he launched a few days earlier to try and get out of paying this £4.9m?

Would pay the salary of 147 nurses for a year that money.

Are you feeling OK today?

Where is the evidence?  The topic of this thread is all the evidence anyone could want.

Freedoms are gradually being eroded generally, not just in this country either. Discussing certain topics online has now become almost impossible and peaceful protests have now become much harder to make. You can understand it up to a point - no-one in power wants you to rock the boat, so they make it as difficult as they can to get your points across - in freedom of speech terms, that means calling people out for the stance they make that is seen as not toeing the line.........stand up Mr Lineker and take a bow......his situation is an indication of corporate and political powers trying to shut people up and all the evidence you need.

Well, I think HMRC should probably take a look at the users on this thread.

Never realised half the board were tax cheats, but there you go

Many companies, organisations and regulatory bodies impose obligations not to indulge in political activity or to voice political views in the media.  It’s been like this for decades and isn’t peculiar to the BBC.

This is the Nadine Dorries who broke the rules of her subscription with Netflix by giving her password to four other households, and was dumb enough to say so in public?

I agree that he earns a lot of money but the simple fact is that he is the best at an extremely difficult job. His handling of the situation when Eriksen died on the pitch was extraordinary.

And of course he could earn way more working for Sky. Gary Neville is rumoured to earn £4m a year.

I'm sure the BBC could get it done cheaper but probably not better. And although he is often cited as their biggest earner that probably isn't true. The BBC pays production companies for a lot of programmes, including Graham Norton and David Attenborough

Greg ****, former Director General of the BBC was interviewed this morning. He stated quite clearly that in his time as DG there was no such restriction placed on non news staff.

5Live gone as well. BBC sports coverage imploding.

That's not good - I'd imagine a lot of visually impaired and blind people use the radio as their main source of commentary/news for games. I recall there was some upset from charities representing the blind when it was announced they were getting rid of the classified results.
