Marquinhos on loan

Recommended Posts

Well I hope he makes his Marq and a difference in assisting our ascent up the table....I'm sure the squad (and also we the support) will make him very welcome on Saturday....

Which incidentally, can't come quick enough....

Hopefully he can add that bit of attacking flair on the right flank.  I guess that looking around the squad Wagner has decided it's generally ok for a playoff push which will mean we see KM regularly as defensive midfielder ?

As popular as he is I see this signing as the beginning of the end of Hernandez automatic inclusion as the 'wide' player in the team.

Marquinhos has more of a 'end product' to his game whereas Hernandez seems to have a head down and run style with left, right left turns that end in nothing.

This guy plays on the right doesn't he?  Depends where Wagner see's everyone's best position.

Dowell's position is probably key in all this - presuming this isn't a purple patch and he's an integral part of our push,  if this new guy nails the right sided position, then in terms of team selection I think Wagner would have to sacrifice Onel for Dowell.  Because I can't see him dropping Sarge or Sara.

But then, we have Max playing right wingback and clearly Wagner wants him pushing on... So, I don't know if he'd want to overload the right so much.  If this new guy is any good we could be stripping teams apart with those two overlapping, and McLean picking up the pieces up behind.

Not think Dowell might come in towards number 10? Personally, I see Onel as an excellent player to chuck on from off the bench - his brand of pacey chaos works best when he's fresh and opposition players are tiring, not to mention it should give him a bit more margin for error and space to come up with end product.

Yes. I suppose starting with Onel rather than using him as a supersub is the one thing that is surprising about Wagner's deduction of the squad and it's arrangement on match days.

But, two 4 goal thumpings have proven him to be correct.

Despite the new arrivals (including Tzolis and Placheta) I think he will stick to the same starting eleven on Saturday.

I'm not sure Onel coming on late does him any favours. He tries too hard to make an impact and often makes the wrong decision. I thought he played well against Coventry, probably his best all round performance since 2018/19.

Where would that that leave Sarge/Idah though?  We've got a lot of wide players coming into the frame now and the 3 forwards will be battling over what we conceive as more central #9 an #10 roles I presume?!

I see no reason why Dowell couldn't start left but has a free role, which is a reversal of what he's done already (?).

It's hard to make a judgement without actually seeing them play in front of us though, part of the reason i'm really looking forward to the weekend.

Absolutely fluffed it in front of goal though didn't he, and nearly cocked up the first... He's got some serious work to do to stay in this team.  Love the guy and hate for him to be out, but you have to get real now we've got genuine competition in areas that looked deprived a few months back.

I think the thing is we now have options.

When Wagner arrived we had Dowell and Onel starting and then an out of form Cantwell, a deeply average Sinani or a couple of out of position strikers as options if the starters lost form.

Now if Onel or Dowell drop off a bit (which wouldn't be great shock based off past performance) we at least have options that could make a difference.

How many times have we all complained about Sarge being shunted out on the right? I don't think any of us will criticise his excellent workrate and sheer willingness to go after anything that moves, but he's clearly shown this season that he's better in the middle.

I think that's part of the reasoning behind dropping Gunn for Krul too..  It's basically resetting the squad to create pressure on the starting 11 to squeeze improvement.  i.e. Gunn would not be looking over his shoulder at Krul, as much as Krul is looking over his shoulder at Gunn.

And I think Onel has been used as the blueprint of what he wants in that position, and we're now seeing the resulting activity to support that.  Onel wants that position more than most, as we know the love he has for the club.

I think it's very smart man management, and it's about to take a serious turn!

That's what i'm saying, if you put Dowell at 10 then Sarge has to go wide if you play them both - can't see it happening, personally.  Dowell could replace Onel, but couldn't see him replacing Sarge, or any other deeper positions such as Sara etc. either.

I think you have to look at this team and consider all 18  that can potentially play during that 90 min period, and it becomes much easier to start to work out.

Inexperienced? How many of our players have a goal and an assist in Europe? Or spent the season so far training daily with the team at the top of the premier league?

Yes inexperienced. Irrevelvant our other players experience(not playing in Europe for example) outside when they signed so to highlight our transfer policy. Training with a first team, wow! Outside of his games in Brazil he hasn't done a full 90 minutes in only 6 games for Arsenal. So yes, again. Inexperienced.

Lets hope he comes good though eh. Give us something to smile about and validate our transfer policy a bit.

It is bound to be Onel. Even though he goes out to the left so much, there is nothing to say he won't put Marquinhos out left as well. I don't see Tzolis starting.

Not sure about this bit Botto , i can imagine Onel being used as a blueprint for effort, enthusiasm and popularity, but the bar has to be set higher for ability , composure and efficiency. I like Onel , but i want better than him for that starting position.  Decent squad member but ultimately not the future imo.

I meant more in the vein of playing an actual winger with pace who looks to go wide, versus what we had been doing with Sarge.  i.e. a proof of concept, perhaps is a better term to use.

Marquinhos in to replace Sinani. Hopefully now we can finally play with an actual right winger for the first time since Buendia left

Wherever he is, you can count on Dowell to hold things together.

Sits perfectly tight in that hole, does Dowell.

That first day video is really interesting and gives some good insight into the club.

He may not be popular but I like the way that Webber personally escorts them all  and knows everyone in the club.

Hernandez instantly likeable and McLean definitely a character. Wagner is indeed very tactile with the players and you can tell how much he wants to build a good relationship with them.

In total contrast, Hanley gives a miserable hello and then just walks off....not exactly what I'd expect from our captain.

Enjoyed that Ron, thanks. Turning up with mum and dad, still a very young man, hope he is able to settle quickly. I have much more confidence that Wagner will get the best out of all our players, including those that have returned, exciting times.

Also of course the true extent of Onel's linguistic skills should come as no surprise!!!
