Hugill to Rotherham

"He is a key player for me... I don't just rate a player because of his minutes and his impact on the pitch. You don’t win a title or promotion just as 11 players. He' a leader in our dressing room and one of the main topics why we were promoted".

This is the correct opinion about Hugill. And it contains the word 'topic'

Will go down as one of the most bizarre signings we ever made.

I still think becchio holds that title, not the fact we signed him, more the fact of what happened after he'd signed.

Winding the clock back a little, Jan Molby was always a very bizarre one for me.  Not a signing... But was bloody weird all the same.

With regular game time, he's decent in the Championship. A danger for sure and for a team like Rotherham, he'll be a good signing

Cracking signing for Rotherham. Can see him doing well there, and Rotherham comfortably staying up.

Hugill. He came and he went. He had his moments, although he wasn't much of a footballer (head baller, yes.)

Most of us loved him, and apparently he will be greatly missed in the dressing room.

I shall keep track of his progress at Rotherham. Hope it goes well. They seem a fit.

Was amazing to see him, I went for a pint in the city that night and he was in the nightclub....

The £5m we eventually paid for him could have got us Toney in the same window.

Not really it made sense. Pukki was dippng in form and needed someone to challenge him nevermind our lack of strikers. At the time there were lots of complains that Pukki was being out outmuscled

But we owned Carlton Morris

No idea when his contract expires.

Have you ever heard of a website called Google?

It expires at the end of the season.

Ooh, get you! 😉

This might be a good place to mention to @dylanisabaddog that my 'Contract Conundrums' thread contains an up-to-date list of all our senior professionals' contract details:

Google isn't a website, it's a search engine.

It's still a website.

Perhaps you should Google "is Google a website" just after Google "jordan hugill contract length".

Was he in, or "out of it"? 😉

Toney was never going to join a club to be backup though.

That's a fair point.

Still, £5m was a lot to drop on a backup striker. I can only assume that we really struggled to recruit in that position and got a bit desperate. We were linked to that lanky German chap every window for a while weren't we, Dusch or something, and Sheffield Wednesday asked a ludicrous amount for Rhodes a year earlier.

No, because Toney was eventually £10m.

Don't use Google - use Ecosia.

If you Google (or Ecosia) 'lanky German chap + Norwich link + Dusch or something' you might get Marvin Ducksch.

No one has ever produced anything showing we paid £5m for Hugill.  It was £2.5m + add ons (plural).  Anyone quoting it is being foolish, in the same way that we never paid £7m for Wildschutt.

I think there's a strong argument for saying that if he hadn't stuck away that penalty in the last minute at Rotherham, the second Farke title season might have turned out very differently. Difficult to remember now, but ye gods we needed a win that day.

Nice goodbye from a model pro, hope he can help take points off those above us.

It’s “may not have played”, not “may not of played” but other than that, good luck at Rotherham Jordan 👍

He’s a footballer - I don’t suppose English grammatical niceties matter that much in his world!
