Top two choices?

Recommended Posts

We have seen a number of names bandied around, many with conflicting +/- opinions. I did wonder if we had any name that seemed to be on most ‘wishlists’, for want of a better word.

Ultimately we could get a leftfield appointment like Alex Neil/Daniel Farke who both worked out ok for a while.  I’m not even sure whether it’s better for a quick appointment or to think about it a longer while (but probably the former).

For what it’s worth, here’s my own top two (in no specific order), keeping it realistic:

Hassenhutl, Robins.

Mightily relieved I got 18/1 on Wagner, now slashed to 4/1 on Sky Bet!!

I saw Hassenhutl at 25/1 and then 6/1, but there seems little rhyme or reason to a lot of these odds

It’s either a short term appointment to try to force our way back into the premier league with what we have or it’s a rebuild project.

Wagner's almost too obvious a shout, but if Webber wants evidence of sticking to a plan, it's a good one and should unify the fanbase.

Knutsen, Lieberknecht and Muscat would be my left-field calls.

Seoane or Robins.

Robins is one I feel we need to get out of our system, as he always gets a mention and might be worth a go.

I have an ever growing list of managers I don't particularly want. The shortening odds on Wagner don't exactly thrill me!

Manager betting,  especially at Championship level isn't a big book, it'll only take one half decent bet to sends odds crashing. If you bet £100 on one of the lads at 20s, they'd probably initially drop to about 10s whilst the bookies see if anymore money comes in for them.

Looking at Sky Bet, a lot of bets on Wagner that could just be people reacting to the fact Webbers worked with him before, also a few quid it seems on Robins. Hassenhuttl odds are dropping suggesting not much being placed on him.

Nothing yet that is screaming inside info though.

I remember Wagner’s Huddersfield absolutely ripping us a new one, one night during their promotion winning season. It was those types of exploits that caused us to pinch Webber. What makes you think he would be a bad appointment?

On the face of it, I can't see anything wrong with Wagner, although I'm sure there will be someone who will make me see the error in my thought process.

I didn't say he would be a bad appointment. It was years ago he steered Huddersfield to promotion.

Subsequent failures at Schalke and Young Boys.

Feels a bit meh to be.

Think it's worth pointing out that Wagner struggled at Schalke when they were financially in dire straits and seemed to be one of the most vulnerable to the effects of the pandemic.

He’s not a bad shout, but that promotion was over 5 years ago. He definitely did well to keep Hudds up but then got booted in January the following season, with them in last place. He doesn’t seem to have managed too much since at Schalke and Young Boys.  It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but he and SW will presumably know each other well.

Hassenhutl (sp ??) seems the best logical choice to me.

Assuming he would come to a Championship club - I would expect him to be able to hit the ground running, Southampton is a very similar size club to ours and run along the same lines.............. plus he would surely love to get us up at the same time as they get relegated ??

Yeah, I agree he seems not to have done well since leaving Huddersfield, but If he did come here, I reckon he’d come here with a real point to prove, and a decent amount of experience on how to go about proving his point.

Wagner has failed miserably at his last two jobs.

No thanks.

All the best. Big Keith Scott.

Now odds on with a couple of bookies, so plenty of cash flowing in for him.
