Branston Pickle 4,142 Posted December 27, 2022 As per the title - Parker seems to be favourite, and has promotions on his cv, but people don’t seem keen on him. I thought his sides looked pretty decent football-wise, and was only binned after falling out over transfers….I guess that might not bode well for him here, but he might be worth a punt? By Hook or Ian crook 943 Posted December 27, 2022 Logically he’s the stand out candidate from the names on the list. Some people will never be happy if it’s not their favourite choice. You can’t please everyone.

I’m sorry, but this appointment can’t be a “punt.” If Webber hasn’t got a well researched shortlist ready this time, he’s reputation is tarnished forever.

That’s kind of what I was thinking - he’s unemployed but not due to poor league position/football reasons; he and Hassenhutl seem to be good candidates unless we go left field…though obviously wages/transfer policy may be an issue. Ok, fair point, but aren’t they all a punt one way or another? There’s left field punts and educated punts though, Parker sits well in the latter category.

repman 745 Posted December 27, 2022 I've said it elsewhere on here but I think his 2 promotions were nothing special. Both times he had really strong squads and promotion was the floor of those squads abilities. If he stayed with Bournemouth this year he'd have 2 relegations under his belt which isn't particularly impressive either. I think also his propensity to moan about not having enough signings would go against the reality at Norwich.

KeiranShikari 1,524 Posted December 27, 2022 Parker only makes sense if you don't take into account the last couple of years at Norwich. He's not the sort of manager that fans take to personality wise, that's obviously a criticism of Smith and something you'd think Webber is looking to rebuild. He also openly criticises the clubs he's working for over finances, so that's almost obviously a no from Webber too.

We need help, not sameness.
Canario 268 Posted December 27, 2022 Think Ralph could be a good fit. Xisco is a good shout too though. Nuno highly unlikely but would be infinitely preferable to the likes of lamps or stevie g. If its Bruce we may actually play in front of an empty stadium. Worked in the covid season so you never know!!

I'll admit to not really wanting him but also not having a genuinely good reason why. Like you say, he ticks most boxes, has championship promotions on his CV but is still young in terms of his management so has room to learn and grow. Plays decent football too. I don't have a genuine reason so I should probably just keep quiet!
keelansgrandad 6,680 Posted December 27, 2022 Cannot see that those who don't want him have put up a solid case against. From what I have seen, he seems a bit sullen at times. Not sure we want someone moody in charge. But his record is better than many others.
Ken Hairy 4,272 Posted December 27, 2022 (edited) Had a hissy fit about lack of money at Billionaire owned Bournemouth, hardly going to be overjoyed at our piggy bank is he? Stupid jackets too. Edited December 27, 2022 by Ken Hairy

It’s difficult isn’t it - I’d not really thought that much about him, but when it came to it couldn’t really think of any reason why he’d not be a good option. I suppose the main issue would likely be budget, that seems to be what did for him at Bournemouth.

nutty nigel 7,902 Posted December 27, 2022 To be honest I haven't got a clue who would work here. Webber's done one good / one bad. But they were in different situations. And this is a different situation again. They're not likely to ask me anyway🙃 I reckon it will be that wait and see pudding my mum used to cook... As always whoever it is results will be the ultimate judge.

Always using the same excuse that his failings were down to lack of investment. Another smartly dressed ex-pro with nothing to offer. No obvious coaching nous. Definitly a no from me. Barry Brockes 157 Posted December 27, 2022 Hassenhuttl has a very over-inflated ego and thought he was bigger than Southampton so the chances of him coming here are somewhere between very slim and non-existent.
PurpleCanary 6,370 Posted December 27, 2022 No strong feelings on Parker. He may be sensible and bright enough to have learned from any previous mistakes. But the comments here and on other threads indicate a dilemma for the club. Some posters say we . . have to choose a coach who will give us the best chance of promotion this season. Others here are worried that Parker might get us promoted but then fail in the Premier League…

keelansgrandad 6,680 Posted December 27, 2022 Before we contemplate next season we have to first make sure we don't fall to the lower reaches of the league and then push for the playoffs.

He will be well aware of the frugality of our budget if offered the job, but would surely relish the challenge of getting another Championship side promoted to the Premier. Good for his cv, good for the club and if he manages to achieve the latter American investment could be forthcoming.
OnDaBall 141 Posted December 27, 2022 On the face of it Parker is a stand out candidate, two promotions into the Prem in a very short career and of course has played for us. However both promotions were with favourites to go up, sides with practically Premier League squads, so anything but promotion would have been abject failure. Obviously on paper we are one of the favourites to go up, so maybe short term he'd work out, I just don't think he'd be a good long term appointment, but is that even important these days? Van wink 2,994 Posted December 27, 2022 Pointless being overly concerned about who could keep us in the Prem, I think even the lad that had his birthday on Sunday would struggle to do that with Norwich. What I want to see is a manager who can evidence getting teams out of this league, will deliver some consistency in selection and a style of play that suits our squad. A style that rhe players can buy into and understand and which obviously delivers results. Also an emphasis on player development.

They played an amazing style of intense football. Logically the only ones who will unite the fan base are the ones who we might feel are unattainable like Bielsa.
