Luck - and the next two games

Recommended Posts

Looking at Saturday's match, the luck was totally against us - two deflected goals is bad luck in anyone's books. That's not trying to hide how poor we were, but just saying what happened. We were poor, have been poor in a lot of matches, but when your luck is out, as it was with those two goals, it's like kicking someone when they are already down.

What is making it harder for players is that they know the fans are fed up with the football - we're not seeing any progress - and with players having to deal with that, it just leads to hesitancy and nerves which leads to things like those two "unlucky" goals.

I know what Smith was getting at with his "good we've got an away match next" - because it is an opportunity to get a win and/or to build a bit of confidence before coming back to Carrow Rd and trying again - and if you have a bit of extra confidence and positivity from a good performance/result, the luck might go in your favour . His comment wasn't intended as some great slur on the fans, just a realistic comment on how things can improve.

Luck? You make your own luck and I think Smith has two games to find a bit of luck that will turn our - and his - season round.

Interestingly our next match is Luton and now the last five times we have played Luton we have only beaten them once with the other four matches being loses. Luton has never been much fun for us. Least we got this last year right? Lets hope for a repeat..

How any manager can say ‘good we’ve got an away game next’ is baffling. Surely he should be saying, ‘next home game we need to give the fans something to get behind’. I don’t care how it was intended, it was a stupid comment.
If he really had player welfare and confidence at heart he’d stop forcing them to play in an unsuitable system devoid of threat and impetus. He can deflect as much as he likes, he’s toast unless he has a very good run for the apologists to start having some kind of traction of a point in his favour.

Smith has had more than enough opportunity to 'make his own luck'.

We're as close to 21st in the table as we are to the top two.

We've amassed 12 points from our last 12 games.

He's called out the fans in his post-match comments, and then Hanley has come out after that and defended them.

The fans will not give Smith any more opportunities to 'make his own luck', and neither should they.

I couldn't give a luck about luck.

It's too late. Smith has been in charge for over a year and even now no-one knows what kind of football he's trying to get the team to play. Least of all the players.

He's had a month's break with the players to get his ideas across. Yet still they don't know what they're supposed to do.

It's over. Let it go.

Much as I can try and defend Smith and say that I do think he's a decent bloke.. It is rather hard right now.

Not only do you have him coming out and saying he's happy we are away so he doesn't have to face the fans but then you also have our club captain Hanley coming out and when he's asked about the fans chanting for his/our manager to be sacked he's all 'I understand them and get it'

Yeah, safe to say its not a good look

This. Nothing has changed since his first day. No identity. Doesn't know his best XI. Still playing players out of position despite two transfer windows.

The old cliche about luck evening out across the season also has some truth

We were pretty lucky ourselves during that long winning run eg against Sunderland
