unique 466 Posted December 19, 2022 Whoever replaces Smith as Norwich City manager will be inheriting a midfield unfit for purpose. Pace, with absolutely no end product Hernandez, Placheta Tricky, with little to no end product Cantwell, Nunez The 'supposed' enforcer- 11/15 points dropped at home since his starting Hayden Meh - no pace,no dynamism,no end product Sinani, Dowell, McLean, Sorensen Probably the best of a bad bunch Gibbs,Sara The most consistent, but not our player Ramsey Not a goal scorer amongst them. A miracle worker required!

TheGunnShow 7,377 Posted December 19, 2022 @Feedthewolf was proposing three at the back and wing-backs, clearly the idea is to get width that way. I'd be thinking a Christmas tree formation for similar reasons, and really gunk up the middle of the pitch with a 4-3-2-1 (basically, with two number 10s) to start games off. Lungi will be fine with a faster player near him as he's one of our best tacklers and he's positionally disciplined. McLean looked decent on the left side of a diamond until we stopped playing with it and if he's playing on the left of that three, I don't see that as too dissimilar. Gibbs needs to be in - @FenwayFrank made a comment in another thread that he's not too dissimilar to Rupp, and that sort of sprightly presence and progressive, albeit not incisive passing could really help us along. Christmas Tree needs the full-backs bombing on to widen the play in possession, so the midfield three needs to be relatively circumspect. We already know Lungi and McLean can fill a hole at left-back well enough if McCallum or Giannoulis bomb on. Aarons has gone gun-shy so maybe extra central midfield security might just get him to move up? If things get too compact in the middle, chuck a winger on from off the bench. Petriix 3,219 Posted December 19, 2022 Or, here's a crazy idea, how about a radical 4-2-3-1 with a solid double pivot, wide AMs who play quite narrow almost as 3 interchangeable no 10s when in possession but support their fullbacks in defence. The fullbacks could do most of the width and overlap with freedom. I reckon Cantwell, Dowell and Nunez would thrive in that system.
