Didn't he have a bad injury which he should be nearly recovered from? I know Burnley offered him a contract but don't know how things ended up.

30 year old journeyman on silly wages? Don't sound like somethig we would do

Just recovered from an injury wouldn’t think he would command silly wages. Plus Pukki out of contract in summer. Maybe seen as a stop gap? Just passing on what I was told.

Yes he has just recovered from an injury. He left Burnley in August when his contract expired I believe has been recovering till recently.

Only just got a bad injury so hes not fit and he's prone to breaking down and missing half the season? Alright I take it back he sounds like he would fit in perfectly here

You are talking about the same recruitment guy who brought in Josip Drmic…

Had the injury last season is fit now as I understand it. Also looking at doesn’t mean offering contract, we could offer trails ect to see how he is.

agreed after all we do have Idah, Byram and Hayden who all seem very brittle.

You often break the rules for strikers.

As we did with Rhodes for example. You need some guarantee of second tier goals to promote.

The Pukki-shaped hole is frightening.

I would absolutely expect us to explore every Vydra-type avenue.

Wouldn't be awful if he's not crooked, but why couldn't he agree terms at Burnley yet could here?  It can only be based on money or guaranteed selection as to why he didn't renew his contract.  Don't believe we would offer more money or guarantees on game time with Sarge, Pukki and Idah coming back.

More concerning if this happens is that Sarge would be left out wide.

Just can't see how there's any truth in this personally.

Totally - I can imagine there’d be criticism if he was linked elsewhere without us having a look.  After all - Idah’s out, as is Rowe, Rashica may be leaving etc

I think we could and have done much worse should he sign. Also strikes me as having similar attributes to Pukki.

I personally would have liked him to sign for us, but that being said, I don't think he is the right signing for the club at this time.

I agree that he is a player in a similar mold to Pukki and has historically been of a similar level. That is, until Farke pushed Pukki to another level by playing a style to suit him exactly. But Smith does not get anything like the performances from Pukki that his predecessor got, because he doesn't play the system to suit him.

Therefore I think Vydra would have been a fantastic signing, a year or so ago to give Pukki a rest and competition but now its not worth it, we should focus on getting some tools that Smith likes to use/is suited to using.

I think Smith needs less Pukki and more Grealish.  Can't we find someone with large calf muscles instead?

Presume his injury recovery would be reflected in any contract offer so I’d be game for it. Give him the 2nd half of the season to get back into the swing of things and it’ll make Pukkis departure less hard. Could be a fairly low risk gamble for a very good player at this level.

Yeah, I like this idea. It might be that Idah's latest injury is more serious that we're letting on, and/or we want to loan out Hugill until his contract expires in the summer. Certainly has plenty of goals and experience at this level. Would definitely be an upgrade on what we have as backup, and as said elsewhere he can also play as a wide forward.

Yup. I was going to say that it could merely indicate that they have plans for some of the other players. In the long run, we face going into the summer with just Idah and Sargent as our recognised senior strikers. One will be 23 the other 22. Still very young - though no reason to say not good enough.

Vydra on a contract from Jan for a season until summer of 2024 with a further option may not be a bad idea. Possibly even a shorter term deal if the rumours about loaning out Idah for regular game time were true or, like you say FtW, if they can find a new home for Hugill who I doubt they will want to keep hold of, especially if they can get some sort of fee for him (could we sell him to Coventry?).

Sargent, Pukki and Vydra would be more than enough to cover the number 9 position. I think if Idah were fit we'd be desperate to offload Hugill in January, but if another striker doesn't materialise then I guess we may want to keep him for the 'battering ram' option. If Idah is likely to be fit by January, though, I'd let Hugill go on a free now. He's obviously not part of our future, and holding out for a nominal fee might just lead to him kicking his heels here as fourth choice for six months. Makes sense for all parties to move him on ASAP.
