****The Official Lapps Match Thread v Rotherham (L/a)) ****

Yup, even I find that baffling.

I was trying to look at how they could play two up top with Pukki and Sargent, but there's no width unless they are playing a diamond again?

Could be:
GK: Gunn
DF: Aarons, Hanley, Gibson, McCallum
DM: Hayden
CM: Sara, McLean
AM: Ramsey
STR: Pukki, Sargent

Going to be changes having just played Wednesday. Think we will look better with McLeans energy in midfield away from home.

I'll reserve judgement until I see how we set up on the pitch

It could be a diamond, in which case I can understand the selection

              Hayden

    Sara             Mclean

             Ramsay

      Sargent    Pukki

...however , if this is 433, then the dropping of Cantwell and recalling McLean smacks of shoehorning his favourites in to the detriment of the shape of the team

Seems we are playing a diamond with two up front  but who is going to deliver the balls into the box for the two forwards.  I guess the plan is that we hope to boss possession, allowing the full backs to deliver the crosses.

Shocked by the Cantwell snub, he has been trying hard and one of the better performers recently. Not surprised by Gibbs, thought him and Byram were very poor mid week.

That might be it, actually. Nunez not being on the bench does make sense, as you know Rotherham will be up and in your face all game. That sort of physicality might be a bit beyond his ken yet.

I agree, but how does that work with Nunez?

Actually answered that in response to @chicken's post - away to Rotherham is not likely to be a game that's his sort of game (yet). You know Rotherham will be in your face all day and he's looked a bit short of the necessary physicality recently, so makes sense that he's not an option today.

Nunez was midway through his domestic season when he joined us and was thrown straight into league games for us.

Surely not? It’s November, and in 3 games they have nigh on a month off!

Not surprised at Todd being dropped. Great game last Saturday but I didn't see him do much on Wed. Still too inconsistent & goes to ground too easily.

Hoping it’s the diamond and it’s still good enough to win but I’m not impressed with that selection. Needless constant changes in formation and personnel not helping us to build any understanding or cohesion.

Todd did well but dropped. Sargent no doubt playing wide again. Ramsey gets picked whatever.

Think you've just seen a prime example of a fresher side beating up a less fresh side with the Blades mullering Burnley in that second half. We've been playing midweek since October 15th. Had a tough one against QPR last time out, and this is a typically hard one away to a decent and very combative side in Rotherham.

By all means rest when the break comes around, but the games have been coming thick and fast for this break to be scheduled.

I think we tend to make the starting line up sacrosanct when really football is now a 90 minute squad game.

I'll be well happy if this is Pukki/Sarge up top.

Gibbs poor i midweek? Not from where I was watching, better than Hayden in my opinion!

Agree with this👍 ...and those pair will be a right handful. Plus, Todd coming on, say around the 60th minute, to cause even more problems and I will be happy.

Ps. Spot on, with 5 subs it is even more of a squad game
