Smith - 50 not out!

Recommended Posts

Didn’t realise until I just read Connor Southall‘s column that the game against Stoke was Dean Smith’s 50th game in charge of us. My reaction to that was literally wow! I don’t know why but it really does not seem like 50 games.

So, in the interest of positivity, what’s the best moment of Smith’s 50 games? I know there is a lot of negativity, but there must’ve been some positive moments right?

Maybe we can start with his first game in charge vs Southampton, with the 2nd half turnaround to win us the game. Hope of survival at that moment seemed real!

The silence is deafening 😄

Prehaps posting this thread at half past midnight wasn't the best Idea?

Either way, that match against Watford in the Prem was fun

Southampton home, Everton home, Watford away.

Yep indeed hoggy so that leaves just the other 47 that have been easily forgettable.

Yeah, 3/50 not exactly an exciting return...

There have been loads of games where we've had 'purple patches' for between 15-30 minutes, but under Smith we just don't appear to be capable of dominating games. Nobody really dominates for 90 minutes straight at Championship level, but the most frustrating thing has been that we've seen brief flashes of brilliant football in amongst a sea of underachievement. It seems that the purple patches are an inevitable outcome of having talented players on the pitch rather than any great tactical plan.

That last half an hour against Stoke was excellent, though. If we can play like that for the majority of tomorrow's match and win, I think it will alleviate a lot of pressure on us.

While I agree no one can literally dominate in the Champs for 90 mins, the last time we were promoted there were plenty of games when we were in control for the entire game.  IMO that's the main problem for Smith, he's being compared to a very high bar which is always going to be tough, but given the squad he has, he should be able to achieve this by now.

If the team are able to play like that for the majority of tomorrow's match, that will certainly take a lot of the pressure of him, but he's not managed that so far.

Just looking we won against saints on Jan 20 that felt good I felt we went on a run but out next league win was Jan 15 Vs Everton.

This run included a 5-0 tonking 3-0 and 2-0 in a row.

I feel I was angry about firing farke but wanted to be open minded. By 14 Dec and a loss to villa it was apparent that Smith was not the man.

So if by December 11 months ago it was clear he was not the man...

Why oh why oh ****ing why does he still hold a job with us.???

So yeh... The saints game probably the Smith high point but as I was still bitter about losing Farke and replacing him with Smith not sure this counts.

Can I say there has not been one yet?

I don't look back fondly at the Southampton match, My lasting memories are of them scoring early and Todd looking completely out of sorts, Hanley slipping, and their poor goalkeeping.  The 3 points felt very lucky to me.

Whereas Watford away, for me, that night was golden and it felt like we were starting to evolve, particuarly as we beat Everton week before.  We just seemed to have an aurora and direction about us.  And even after the game, the talk regarding whether Sarge meant his goal or not - it just felt like there was a buzz around us.

...And then Idah does his knee. 👎  Massive pivotal moment for me.

For me it was Brandon Williams surging forward against Everton and having two - yes, actually two - passing options in front of him in Pukki and Idah. Think it was Idah who scored.

Thought at that moment Smith had found a way we could actually hurt teams. Oh well.

I'd say getting to watch the World beater that is Billy Gilmour pull on the yellow shirt! What a treat!

' we are not worthy '

Speaking of young Krankie, I notice he's currently setting the world alight at Brighton 🤣
