Canary Jedi 579 Posted October 18, 2022 From Paddy’s Pointers article: Look away now, Ben This was a big night for Ben Gibson. A first Championship start since the first home game of the season against Wigan. A game where another costly individual error for the experienced centre back proved one too many for Smith. Perhaps Grant Hanley and Omobamidele would have asserted themselves in any case as his preferred first choice. But Gibson’s inconsistency settled the debate. Alas, after a composed first half it was his poor control that allowed Allan Campbell to feed Morris to confidently put Luton in front. It summed up Gibson’s Norwich timeline since perhaps the club’s last Championship tour. Close your eyes and remember the commanding defender, with a sweet left foot, who was able to step into midfield, break lines and find a player in the same shirt. All qualities badly needed at present. Not to forget the natural balance he offers and the vocal leadership. Until injury intervened down the stretch that year he was a key part of that Championship title win. A repeat looks a long way off for either party at present. With Omobamidele picking up an ankle injury at Watford he may have expected an extended audition in the shorter term. Smith indicated afterwards the Irishman will miss three to four weeks with ligament damage. But in a key match-defining moment Gibson was found wanting again. ged in the onion bag 855 Posted October 19, 2022 He’s having a tough time but it was a mis-control on the half way line and we had cover! Not entirely his fault since the defence didn’t do their jobs after the error. let’s not go overboard. We lost for many other reasons! … and don’t we love to blame the ref… we had Cantwell, Nunez, even Aaron’s collapsing on the floor making no effort to be strong and progress possession…. They weren’t fouled. What was the guy supposed to do!

Nobody has mentioned just how easy it was for Morris to turn Hanley inside out when he faced him up!!
