king canary 7,603 Posted September 1, 2022 With teams at all levels now required to register 25 man squads over the age of 21, how about this? Any player over the age of 21, who is not out on loan and who hasn't been registered in their teams squad can opt to terminate their contract and move on a free to a club with space in their squad. Hopefully it would make clubs think twice about stockpiling players and also prevent talented players sitting out for half a season because their club didn't have room for them ala Jamal Lewis last season. Greavsy 2,412 Posted September 1, 2022 not sure contract law would allow that

I think there should be an extended window for these players to be loaned. Just a few days, a week maybe, after the 25 man squads are initially announced. That always used to happen, the loan window in the EFL closed about 2 weeks after the transfer one until a few years back.

It's not a bad suggestion, but, say a club had a full 25 man squad but only 1 recognised left back who was going to be backed up by a youth/utility player. The left back breaks his leg and is going to be out for 6 months. He is worth 20 million even after the break and being covered by man city. The owning club would then not be able to loan in an experienced stand in as they wouldn't be able to drop him from the squad list for fear of him walking (limping) away for nowt....
