Millwall fans

Recommended Posts

After watching the short video clips, it’s about time something was done. It’s obviously only a small minority but maybe a ban on away support would be a start. Having said all that our so-called supporters are not totally innocent, goading and finger pointing, particularly the young idiot in a black cap.

Most of the original goading came from the Norwich fans after we scored and prior to that the number of middle aged tanked up city fans were giving them the finger and other suggestive hand actions

Especially the 3 beer bellied 50 year plus  loud mouthed yobs who the old boy steward turns a blind eye to

Sure away from CR they are different people

That happens every week though from whichever side is winning. I've been 'goaded' by plenty of home fans when we've been beaten away and never felt the need to lob a chair or fight a steward.

There were  a lot in the Jarrold near the away fans more interested in goading and abusing than watching the game. My 17 year son thought it was a bit of fun but wasn't so impressed when the bottles started flying. What is normally a family area contained a number of clearly drunk yobs

A lot of you guys should thank yourselves you didn't have to suffer football in the 1980's.  The walk from the coach to Anfield through Stanley park was a fun experience, or New cross to the den via Surrey docks, an afternoon in Cleethorpes before a Grimsby game was a fight for survival thing. I could go on, Cardiff, Swansea, Old Trafford, Maine Road, and Kenilworth road are all worth a mention.🤣

I'd imagine a lot of us in here experienced the 80s. U forgot the walk from the train station at Ipswich to the ground. But this is 2022 and those days should be long gone. But this is the country that now how has teenage drug dealers and nine year olds being murdered in front of  their parent .

I found some of the language on one of the Millwall blogs pretty ghastly, but that’s social media. I’ve better things to worry about but can’t be easy being an away Millwall fan with all that baggage and demonisation. It’s mainly theatre, and posing, but I’m glad I didn’t have to share the train back as I often do living in the big apple.

They continued after the game too. I heard that one of our fans with crutches walking away from the stadium had his crutches kicked out from under him putting him on the floor and with his son trying to get them away from him and help him up. The police intervened on that one. Utter cowards.

Millwall just need to make an example of their fans still stuck in the 1980's and tell them to jog on, permanently.

Nah, sorry. I have been to quite a number of home and away fixtures in my life. You expect 'interaction' with opposition fans. If you think the correct way to respond is to act like a mindless idiot then you clearly shouldn't be at a football match. Or at least not one that occurred outside of the 1980's.

The majority of those Millwall fans that got shirty were not particularly young... they should all know a lot, lot better. No excuses.

If I had thumped someone, especially someone that isn't the culprit, every time someone was flicking me the bird I'd probably have been inside for more than half my life by now. Should be no excuses.

As said before the main culprits were the boozed up Norwich fans who were not interested in the football but were itching for a fight

Sure Millwall fans were not innocent but a  small minority of middle aged yobs who were sitting in the Norwich section had no interest in the match at all.

After all the so called rules that club have issued sod all was done to evict or speak to them

Again, you can try and blame it on anything you like, the only people responsible for choosing to get aggressive, rip up seats and assault innocent people there to help try and keep you safe are those who are guilty of those actions.

Like I said, it wasn't just inside the ground. They kicked crutches out from underneath an innocent Norwich fan... but you know, three fat blokes so obviously that excuses more idiotic behaviour.

You realise what you are arguing here is justification for things like road rage incidents where people get killed - "they swore at me so I chased them down and stabbed them".

Reasonable and proportionate.

At Maine Road there was the dark quip that if the game was boring, then all you had to do was go to the top of the Kippax Stand, which overlooked Moss Side, and you'd see more shots on target there.

I couldn't agree more. Teach  men to be good sons, brothers, spouses and fathers and teach women to be good daughters, sisters, spouses and mothers.

Always had rocks thrown at the coaches I travelled on when leaving Victoria Ground in Stoke. Why the coach companies persisted on taking us there I could never understand.

Half of Greater Manchester police used to escort us away fans from a coach park a couple of miles away whenever we visited Maine Road. And they were usually needed. Putting us on the Kippax, surrounded on not one but three sides by the baying Manc fans certainly made you feel like you were some exotic creature from another planet!

The only difference I can see from the videos is that the Millwall fans were old and stupid and ours were young and stupid. I feel sorry for the stewards who were completely surrounded by morons.

It should perhaps be noted that there were a lot of Millwall fans there who looked a bit bewildered at what was going on.

If there is anyone out there who wonders why we only got 17,000 attendances in the 80's and 90's when we had one of the best teams in the country, now you know.

Had that a Molineux too - all the way home on a freezing January evening with the back window of the coach smashed out!

I know football has changed massively since the days you're talking about, but Stoke are some of the friendliest fans I've encountered travelling away with Norwich! Had a lovely couple of hours pre-match down by the canal, drinking beer and eating oatcakes on a barge, no less, while chatting with the Potters fans.

We won a Cup tie there, and on the train getting out of Stoke, a window was put through by a passing rock..........

Windows went through and a pool table went over in a pub many years ago at Portman Road. Got escorted to the ground by the bobbies. To top it all off we lost by an own goal if I remember right. Bullet header from a cross or corner.
