10 games is what he should get

Recommended Posts

And if not within touching distance of the top 6 and looking like we're heading towards consistently good form, time to do a Watford.

We do need to be ruthless. We do need our new signings to hit the ground running.

But we don't need to pant wet, and we probably do need to deliver him a centre back before we can claim he's got all the required tools.

I think 10 is generous given the bloke had half a Prem season.

But I agree, if we are outside of the play offs after 10 Smith must go. I hope the board are already sounding out replacements.
Im probably going to get hate for this but f**k it.
Rus Martin - he knows the club, understands the club and knows what we want to achieve.

I think you are right only one new signing started today

the others have been here long enough to know what is needed and played together long enough

if smith has not got the message of how he wants to play and tactics  over to the players by now I will be worried

6 games for me. If he can’t get results against Hull, Huddersfield, Millwall and Sunderland then there is no point in sticking with him

Sure if he fails to win any of those then 6 may be fair.

However if he say picks up 7 points from those 4 then it is probably too small a sample size.

Who would people want?! Russ Martin in my view is to early in his managerial career,  but who else would people want?

This is just one of the similar comments from Swans fans tonight:-

Having been at the match for 85 minutes because I walked out with thousands of others because this was c###. The players are like automatons. Coached like robots. Pass, pass, pass even if it's near the goal or in mid field. Get in the box, just keep on passing. This is awful. We will get relegated unless this changes. So boringly predictable. Utter bilge. A League 1 manager who had good PR.

I'm against sackings part way through a season, so I would simply say that if we're not promoted at the end of the season he goes, but until then, just get behind them.

The manager who I thought we should have turned to once we made the wrong decision to sack Farke. Knutson from Bodo Glimpt

That chap who got a very poor Huddersfield team into the play offs perhaps?

(Actually, see he's been picked up so that's a no go)

The day we appoint Russ Martin as manager is the day to give in for anyone with any sense who supports NCFC.

I do worry that Villa went downhill when they lost John Terry and appointed Shakespeare, and whether John Terry was who the players really respected and played for.

In fact, should we be worried that John Terry walked out on Dean Smith in the first place, wonder why he'd had enough?

Should have kept Neil Adams then and not appointed Alex Neil who took us up that same season?

Would you respect them?

is Dean Smith a guy you “run through a brick wall” for?

nah

He doesn't enthuse me at all, but I tend to judge by results, Lambert was always a boring c*nt save for the odd bit of passion on the touchline and a good fist pump now and again, but couldn't knock his results here.

I do think that Smith came here on the rebound after losing his dream job, would have thought a 6 month world cruise to do a bit of healing and soul searching would have been in order before jumping back in the hot seat, it felt a bit odd to me that.

Russ Martin does at least have a game plan, pass the socks of the ball make no head way, eventually give the ball away 6 yards out and concede soft goals. I can see the logic of wanting this

I think we're going to spend most of this season floating up and down between 4th and 12th which means this debate will just go on and on. He'll never be in danger of being sacked but nobody will be happy either. I can just see us drawing too many games this year because we struggle to score goals and conceed cheap ones.

We'll dominate most games and feel hard done by quite often, we'll probably smash a few teams on our day as well but I can't see us winning consistently with this team being less than the sum of it's parts. It'll be up to people to decide if that's because of the manager or the recruitment strategy, I lean towards recruitment being the problem as our attacking players just don't compliment each other so even if we got a better manager in I can't see us storming through this league. Might be better to let Smith have this one as we go through a transition and hope we can build a more coherent team next year.

Apparently he was on holiday post Villa sacking when Webber gave him a call out of the blue.

he’s out of his depth, has no control over this team and should be sacked

No need for that, stick to taking the **** out of the tea drinking, that's fair game - this is just poor.

Bet you can go back and find similar comments about Farke back in the beginning when it wasn’t quite working before it all clicked.

I would also say another 10 games then assess the situation, there was certainly some positives ,max,Kenny, and Todd played well ,Nunez and Sara had some good touches and will improve with time.but Gibson, pukki, rashica and gianoullis were poor which is a major concern.hernadez his usual self shows brilliance and crapness in equal measure.so the jury's out😃

Agree with the OP.

I think posters need to accept that Webber has entrusted Smith to turn things around. He's had pre season and he's now getting his first new signings through, we have to give him a bit of a fresh slate as well knowing that he's been afforded some additional rope. Calling for his head after 2 games is ridiculous and there is no realistic scenario where Webber would pull the trigger at this stage.

The performances haven't been terrible by any stretch, I think most days we draw at Cardiff and win today - things haven't gone our way but the underlying play has still been of a team largely in control. I'm confident we'll start winning games soon.

You his agent? We’re talking about a manager in the Norwegian league that has achieved all he can with his club and giving him the chance to take a previously relegated team back to the PL. There is no reason to believe he would turn us down

He has Sergent and Hugill who couldn't score in Amsterdam and Rashica who is crap and can't cross a ball without hitting it straight into a defender. You are right about one thing, one more signing from Webber and DS will have all the tools.

This thread should be called “we’ve given up on Smith but don’t want to say it yet anonymous”

I know you’ve all seen what I’ve seen. I know you are all ready to give up on this Aston Villa reject. Just one last push. You are all packed up ready to go, nearly at the gates now 😂
