Not looking good for Giannoulis

Recommended Posts

Dimitris Giannoulis suffered a horror ankle injury in Norwich City's 1-1 draw against Wigan - fact

The left-back needed gas & air as doctors rushed to his side - fact

He's set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines & will miss the September international break - heavily assumed due to nature of treatment and location of injury

Speedy recovery Dimi - fact

My guess would be he's out for 3-5 months.

Hopefully not as bad as it looks but if it is he may be out for a good half the season if not more

Looks like the seriousness of the injury is being judged by the above reports by the amount of pain he was in. Doesn’t always follow that the worst injuries are the most painful so fingers crossed it’s just speculation

My impression would be that this is 4-6 months.

Similar movement to Gibson 2 years ago but at much higher speed. Absolute best wishes to Dimi as I doubt we will see him before Jan/ Feb

The Wigan physios were up sharpish too so there was probably a breakage noise. Unlikely to see him again this year, so will need to consider additional cover now before the window closes.

With Mumba gone too, we are rather short. If Aarons get's injured we are in big touble. Don't think McCallum is enough. Wonder if we might try and bring in an emergency loanee?

Brandon Williams, anyone?

Hopefully sicknote Byram is on his way back. Sorensen can play there too, but he's cover for the entire back four and midfield as well. Just a shame he is crap in his preferred position 😂

Sorensen has been a bit of a shocker so far this season, he is fine as the defensive cover at left back, we all know that.  I guess when we have Hayden, McLean, Sara, Nunez, and Gibbs he is going to get decent game time in centre midfield.
Where does young Archer play?

Looks a horrific injury. He set himself and his right ankle went from under him when the Wigan player put him under pressure. Watched it back frame by frame and if he hasn't broken it I'll be amazed. No blame on the Wigan player though whatsoever. Just one of those horror injuries. Speedy recovery Gio

Happened right in front of us, the scream showed how bad it was, the Wigan manage signalled to the ref straight away, he was 2-3 yards away and new it was bad instantly, there didn’t look like any intent but the Wigan player got the ball and his trailing leg got Dimi full on the ankle, doesn’t look like a quick fix and will be surprised if he is back much before Xmas.

Wouldn't mind him back, but not for how much United were asking

@smhal09: Wigan fans allegedly chanting “soft southern ****” as Giannoulis is given oxygen and taken off on a stretcher. Max Aarons promptly scores for Norwich at the restart and tells them to f**k off. Good lad. #NCFC

@SCFack: Classy from Wigan fans chanting “soft southern ****” while Giannoulis is on a stretcher being given oxygen….

Happened right in front of us. If the reaction of the physios and medicos is anything to go by, it’s not good. Hopefully they were just being ultra careful and it’s not as serious as it could be. Hoping he’s ok now and that he’s back playing again soon.

Didn’t get a clear sight of how it happened. Looked as if his leg / ankle was caught underneath him as the Wigan player landed on top of him.

Would explain Max's reaction after the goal.
