According to Smith that is the answer, no **** Sherlock!!, any Norwich fan could tell you that!!

I am sure there will be lots of reasons/excuses given, but I really cannot understand why the glaring hole in the team was not addressed such that we had at least two preseason games with a new midfield.

I need to stop reading/listening to Smith's interviews as it makes me feel even more underwhelmed/meh towards him..........

Feed the Goat

Tuppence a goal,

I knew a man(ager) once with a wooden leg called Smith.

What was the other leg called?

Having listened to him at the recent NCFSC Forum i left the room at the end underwhelmed with what he had to say. Uninspiring but i am sure he is a lovely bloke to have as a next door neighbour.

What would you like him to say if asked “why isn’t Teemu scoring”, “are you happy with the team’s firepower” or similar? Most interviews are an awkward mixture of journalists with space to fill and players and coaching staff who want to neither criticise their players or give away anything that other teams might find useful.

I'd say he's a great man to let you borrow his ladder or a cup (mug?) of sugar.

We will get these 2 new players and guess what Mr Smith will say, they are not ready to play yet. I thought football was played on grass with goalposts either end, so be prepared to see these 2 in about 1-2 months time

Are you complaining about coaches who don’t play new players until they have had some time to integrate with the squad and how they play? Because a certain Daniel Farke was notorious for that.

All I will say to that is that I know you need to feed the Goat, the people who sit around me at Carrow Rd know you need to feed the Goat, most Norwich fans who watch us play know you need to feed the Goat. Yet here we are one game in and nobody is feeding the Goat!!

So it begs the question what the **** have Smith and Webber been doing from before the end of last season and the beginning of this season to make sure we have somebody to feed the Goat and why are we pinning our hopes on players yet to kick a ball in anger for Norwich City?............

Probably a bit early to assume we haven't been working on how to feed Teemu one game into the season.

We do need to feed the Goat but we need to feed the rest of the Herd as well ,

midfield wide men defenders all have to score

midfielders need to get their shooting boots on

we can not rely of the Goat every game the whole team needs to step up

Who buys the players? Selling Buendia was moronic when we did not replace him with anyone capable of filling that role.

Also, who we feeding next season?

I agree, probably our biggest weakness under Farke was a huge over-reliance on Pukki. And to be fair, whilst we have zero evidence it's working at the moment, I do think it's something Webber and Smith have tried to solve with signings. Pukki doesn't need 30 goals this season if a Rashica / Sargent / Another wide player chips in with 10 goals, an attacking mid with 6-8, and box-to-box mid with 6-8 etc.

I know he started poorly against Cardiff but I believe Rashica could get goals at this level. I hope Sara / Nunez are capable and we know Dowell is capable of it.

Very early on in pre-season Smith identified Dowell as a crucial player for providing the ammunition for Pukki to score. It's not really his fault that Dowell got injured. He has also clearly attempted to address the midfield issues with the purchase of Sara, Hayden (loan to buy), and it seems Nunez. His use of the plural "signings" also suggest there will be at least one more addition. The evidence suggests the club has been very busy indeed in trying to address the problems you identify, but the reality is that signings can take some time to get completed. Perhaps we all just need to give Smith a chance to complete the squad and demonstrate he is capable of putting an effective team on the pitch.

I would like him to say we are looking for at least one more decent striker so that we have more options to our tactics than through ball to Pukki . Long term injury or loss of form and we have nobody that will score anywhere near enough goals to get us top six .

What would stating that publically achieve? Asking about a striker at another club would be viewed very differently if we appear to be making a casual enquiry despite having multiple options already to if we had said that we need to bolster our attack. Plus it would be a slap in the face for Idah (and Jordan Hugoal to a lesser extent).

As I said, there will always be a reasons/excuse, Dowell getting injured just demonstrates a lack of depth to the squad. As far as I can see, which ever way you slices it, we have started the season with a weak midfield, even though we  knew that was the main area that needed addressing and we are now hoping the two players we got in and the two we are looking to get in are going to be the answer. The big question remains of course, when will they start playing, how long will they take to bed in/get up to speed and will we be playing catch up in terms of the automatic promotion/play off places............

Under Farke we never had anyone who could replace Buendia or Skipp if/when they got injured. Like it or not, the reality for a club the size of Norwich is that we don't have the finances nor the kudos to fill the squad with two players of the best quality for every position. It seems to me simply false to say that we have started this season with a weak midfield; it certainly has more depth than last year's squad. It was unfortunate that Hayden got another injury, but his acquisition is a massive improvement on last year's options. Similarly Sara should be fit this week, it appears Nunez is all but in the building, and a further signing has been hinted . Time will tell whether those particular players can do the business and prove worth the money, but to claim the club has not addressed the issue of a weak midfield just isn't borne out by the evidence.
