The End Of Zimmerman

Recommended Posts

Good luck to him, one of my favorite players, a good defender and technically underrated. Gonna have to change my user name now though, I always got a good laugh out of hearing ignorant commentators who knew nothing about us call him and Stiepy Christoph Stiepermann or Marco Zimmermann back in Farkes first few seasons.

I think he had the makings of a top CB but for a lack of pace. He read the game well. But the need for athletes gets greater each season and I doubt he would have played much for us anymore. But well done to him for getting those medals.

Can we set up a fund raiser to get a statue of Zimbo doing his header/tackle against Wolves?

You just know the binners would….

Im not distraught Tilly but  sad, met Zimbo when out of the blue he turned up at one of events back in 2018 i think it was. Just wandered it and said he lived in the flats near the stadium and had seen the event on our facebook page.

Had quite a long chat with him about Germany, his family, his teaching ambitions & footy. Hes a really humble, kind and caring human person who understands fans, also got involved with the CSF and has done loads of work for them that noone knows about.

He came to a few events after that one, mixed with fans, played Jenga, Connect 4 &  came to the Casino night.

Probably the right decision for him but he will be missed

Did you have to take this out of the frame on your bedside table to scan it before posting on here ? 😂

Maybe Haller has some come uppance.  Serious injury just as joined Dortmund as replacement for Halland.

That serious injury is coupled with a testicular tumour! However you feel about the guy, he doesn’t deserve that illness

I’ve not quoted the whole thing to avoid cluttering up the forum, but thanks for that Diane. From the impression I’ve got of Zimbo over the years, that sounds exactly like the man I imagine. The very best of luck to him, he leaves us some fantastic memories and he will be missed. If only all football professionals were like Christophe Zimmerman, what a world it would be.

Zimbo is one of those players who you find yourself loving no matter what ability you think he has.

For me, the more I found out about the chap himself, the more I just couldn't help he became a favourite.

Before his injury he was probably our best all around defender. Very strong, good in the air, reasonable pace and he could ping a ball or two. Maybe not the best with the ball, but then, Godfrey and Gibson excell in those areas.

He even rumouredly caught the eye of Wenger on one occaision.

Such a great character to have in the squad. Great with the youngsters, a model pro, humble, down to earth and philosophical. He's very intelligent, no big ego and is always stressing it is an honour to be able to play football for a living.

I've heard so many first hand stories about him from behind the scenes, they all echo the same thing, he is exactly that person we see in interviews, he shuns the 'hollywood' aspect of football and the big ego's, or at least works hard not to be that himself.

It's hard to see him go if he does, but should be rightly remembered for his strength in passion and becoming the 2nd of "all the Germans" after Farke.

A great pro, but an even greater human being.

Completely agree.

Zimmermann is a real favourite mine for all the above reasons. I’ll be sad to see him go.

If true...

Zimmermann should go down as a cult hero for his bravery, professionalism and commitment to the cause. Credit to himself for repaying Farke's faith and breaking into a side at this level, and to Farke for giving him the confidence and belief to do that.

I'd like to think that both parties can look back at his time here with fondness. We've taken him to levels that he wouldn't have expected to reach, and he's admitted himself he was preparing for a life outside of football.

Sadly he was never quite the same after injury and just isn't quite good enough for us now, and it could be argued that even if he didn't suffer those injuries would still be somebody who isn't quite good enough as a footballer for a team of our calibre.

But if Timm Klose can still get paid to play Championship football then you'd expect Zimmermann to be able to do a job for somebody down the other end of the league, a Birmingham City or a Blackpool or somebody, or one of the smaller Bundesliga 2 teams. He's still got something to offer somebody.

Good luck Zimmermann!

He would be our best centre back if it wasn't for the injury. The challenge from Sebastien haller effectively ended his career, such a shame  nice guy .

It's the right decision, but a shame none the less. Not in the top 50 for quality of player we've ever had but a great personality and a cult hero none the less.

Smith said if he leaves we aren't looking for a replacement - so presumably happy with Tomkinson as 4th choice and Byram/Sorenson as backup.

Crikey - that is a wee bit concerning, feels we’d be going into the season a bit light given our recent injury record - but I suppose they know best!

We did the same last time in the Championship- I think people forget we only had Zimmerman, Hanley and Gibson with Omobamidele yet to start a game for us.

If we see Byram as a legit CB option then I'd argue we've actually got more depth this season.

He actually said it wasn’t dependent on us bringing someone in for him to go, he didn’t completely rule a new CB out.

Off to Darmstadt. 2. Bundesliga, they've got a long-term injury at centre-half so he's going to be bailing out there.

Danke schön für alles, Zimbo! Du kannst Norwich erhobenen Hauptes verlassen, und alles Gute für deine Zukunft!

A real shame, but he is the type of person who wants to play every week, so it’s understandable

Reading the article on the front page it sounds as if his new coach spoke to Farke.

3 year deal but no mention of a transfer fee.

Good luck to him, great servant and pro. Deserves the opportunity to play regularly and glad the clubs supported that.
