BYG's detailed take on Gabriel Sara

Recommended Posts

7 Different managers, damn.  No wonder he's been in many different positions.

Great read though, thanks!

I found it confusing (no surprise there.) By the sound of it he's too good for the Chumps, which is exactly what we are looking for. Hayden too, knee permitting.

This is exciting now. Throw in Mooy and we would seem to have a good package for Smith to work with. No excuses certainly if all goes to plan. It all makes Keiran Dowell and even the ever reliable Kenny Mac seem ordinary mortals.

That squad is bloated (very) though. Is a Championship squad limited to 24, or even less? Some need to go out, one way or another. It cannot be the youngsters that have already burst through, so who?

I feel we've been harsh on Dowell - he's still young at 24 and was really starting to get into his stride towards the end of our promotion season but was then benched in favour of playing Todd out of position to accommodate Rashica and a change in system due to offloading Buendia and from there he barely got a look in. I certainly think he's a player who has the potential to break through again this season if we can play in a system that give him the opportunity to do so.

Regarding squad limits I'm not actually sure if there is one, I know they were trying to bring it in for the Champ to match the PL at 25 with the lower leagues being 20 but not sure if it ever came into force.

25, source - https://www.efl.com/-more/governance/efl-rules--regulations/efl-regulations/section-6---players/

Its last years, but the most relevant I could find with a quick search.

43.9        Squad Lists

43.9.1    Clubs shall be permitted to name up to a maximum number of Players in their Squad List based on the following provisions:

(a)           in respect of Championship Clubs, 25 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player; and

(b)           in respect of League One and Two Clubs 22 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player.

43.9.2    The following Players do not need to be included in the Squad List to be eligible to play in League Matches:

(a)           in respect of Championship Clubs, any Under 21 Player (save for any Under 21 Player who is registered with the Club on a Temporary Loan Transfer)

When the latest loans etc are confirmed I'll update and show my EFL named squad status table again (actualu i'm not at my PC again until tomorrow morning), but at the moment we are currently at 24 named players (11 home grown), with I estimate post loans another 11 U21's in the squad. So room for Sara, but really could do with shifting another couple of named players out to create space for another experienced player.

BYG has a good section on Dowell in his Myths article.

Does it say anything about his medical history?

He must have a long term niggle or broke both his legs in 2020 or something

Live from Brazil 🇧🇷

Senhor Texugo, muito bem.  Parabéns , for finding this article on Gabi Sara. A good 📚 read. I would think he would be starting in August listening to commentary on sports channels here in Brasil. It's gone a little quiet about him , so hopefully he's about to board a plane as we speak. As I've indicated on other threads , ( this guy is a no nonsense all round football player). If the switch is to be made to Norwich he will have the benefit of a stable coaching staff, which will be good for him. Here in Brazil 🇧🇷 it has to be instant success for the big clubs. He will be missed by Sao Paulo that is for sure. I have no doubt he will adapt very quickly to what is required and be a major part of returning Norwich City back to the premiership.

Enjoy: I'm glad he is leaving Sao Paulo FC. because he was a pain in the **** for my team Fla (mengo). 😉

He used to post on here quite a bit but posts mainly on twitter now. Very knowledgeable about ncfc, footy in general and the European market

As Badger said his articles can be read here https://byag.medium.com/

No limits on squad size in Championship.

Thought that was Premier League rules not football league?

Has it all changed to match up now? Probably for the best if it has.
