Wouldn't want to curse by claiming he is the next Buendia, but he certainly shows a very similar ability to turn an opponent and surge forward on the attack. Something we have very much missed.

I always thought Stiepi was a bit underrated there. Get the ball on the half-turn, start facing forward, then rumble...

This guy looks like Stiepi going off those highlights. Left peg, likes a shot from the edge of the box, but looks far more dangerous in the air than Stiepi ever was. Which was annoying considering how bloody tall he was.

Best highlights I've seen of Sara here - looks much better than in the other vids I've watched:

His heading ability looks top notch.

He reminds me of a certain Tim Cahill in terms of very strong aerial abilities and the position he seems to play which looks like a CAM / no.10

Like that Jim. But if he is not as good as Hucks we could always substitute:-

"He's as good as Ian Murray"

or...

"as good as our old Fozzy"

Health warning before you read on, this is based on media story, not official news, but have to assume there is some veracity to it. So, we've agreed the total fee, but are haggling over the 50% down-payment asked by the seller. Cash is king and all that, but with parachute payments as short term security, this fear of extension of borrowing is a wee bit too Conservative for me.  Thought the board were gravy train, money splashing Socialists? 😉

Seems like if this last hurdle over up front  cash can be agreed upon then just the contractual signing is left...which would happen over there?...as its being said he will not fly to Norwich until late July / early August.

Good shout that, he is very Cahill like when you see those powerful headers. 👊

I'm not sure what position the club have in mind as majority of his game time has been CM - you'd have to think he's a shoe in for CAM watching his offensive play - just very little highlights featuring his central/defensive side.  But maybe Brazilians don't make highlights for such elements! 🙂

It's very hard to make a click-able highlights reel demonstrating good positioning sense or interceptions. The general everyday fan wants to see dribbles and goals in these videos and that's about it.

Media guys are pretty sure he's going to be the #8 signing. If you look back at Smith's history he likes to have mobile players in CM that can get up and contribute in attack. McGinn and Grealish either side of Douglas Luiz at Villa, par exemple; Cantwell and McLean (/Sara when he arrives) either side of Hayden.

So do you see that with or without a CAM/#10?

I'm trying to work out where PLM & Idah fits into this - particularly in regards to starter positions.

That particular system, 4-3-3 without a #10. With a proper deployment of an effective defensive midfielder, reasonably speaking any of McLean, PLM, Sara, Cantwell or Dowell could fill the other two spaces (especially in the Championship)

I imagine we will use our ability to switch it up a fair amount this year. At this level we have an awful lot of flexibility in options now.

Yeah, that's how I see it, although it looks like they might be considering Dowell for the right wing rather than midfield.

Which I certainly back as I think if he starts the majority of games there he can hit 20+ goal involvements this year.

Below is a link to a Tifo video about Mcginn at Villa, in which I think you can see the blueprints of what we'll look like this year. I think we'll aim to have a lot of bodies forward and focus on counter pressing to pin teams

Yeah I think McGinn may be a good comp from what I've seen/read. I'm concerned some may be underwhelmed by him as I keep seeing terms like creativity and playmaker thrown around, which I don't think is him.

I think it's because the rhetoric is that we were after 'a midfield creator', which the majority of football fans would equate to ghouls n' assists buh. In the same way a lot of football fans think playing 3 CBs improves the defence.

I see creator in this sense meaning someone who can pick up the ball and progress it aggressively into attacking positions, most likely being the 'assist before the assist'. A player that 'creates' opportunities for our more mercurial attacking players to create goals.

Despite his faults, Gilmour I believe was the most effective Norwich midfielder at progressing the ball last season which is why I think DS persevered with him. Also see Brandon Williams.

Looks like a proper number 8 imo

One of Parma's criticisms of last summer's window was that we bought wingers despite not usually playing with wingers, and that in any event slinging over crosses to Pukki was not a good plan. Assuming we clinch this deal, those attacking the ball runs/headers Sara makes could validate those transfers, albeit a year on.

I'd wait for more details. I'm not sure this will count as a record signing. Primarily because the up front cost is much lower than that and the rest is dependent on things like promotion etc.

Trouble is, my idea of a proper Number 8 is Robert Fleck. 🙂

That's a hefty fee and big down payment for us, for a player who is not going to be ready for the first team, especially if he doesn't get here until August.

Begs the question who will be sold and how quickly! It's interesting but I'll be honest it surprises me we've gone down this direction.

It is not clear but that Sao Paulo want £6m or so up front doesn't necessarily mean that is the basic fee and the other £6m is all dependent.

Normally the basic fee is split up into instalments, as with the Angus Gunn fee, which was £5m but the first up front instalment was half that, leading to some confusion among fans..

I suspect the basic fee for Sara is somewhat more than £6m but Sao Paulo wants as much as possible of it straight away because they need the money!

Lot of bloody money for a lad who's never played anywhere outside of Brazil with a serious injury. Hope it works and isn't another Normann.
