Isaac Hayden to sign?

That is too positive by far, Jim. The last experienced Premier League player we signed from a Northern club who was being offloaded because he was surplus to requirements there and who seemed to be the perfect choice to fill an obvious and gaping hole we had in our squad, and whose acquisition here was greeted with pretty universal approval, even by posters who seem to understand football...was Naismith.😎

He was Kenny's 'pointing guru '.... He gave us the ' jock finger' ..... For want of a better expression.

This is the type of signing (for once) Norwich should be getting. Someone who really should be playing at a higher standard, who with hope can add experience to a championship squad who are hopefully competing next season. Onwards and upwards.

As long as this is Smith's signing and not a player forced upon him, then I'm happy.

Why might it be a player forced on him? He is apparently a central defensive midfielder, and with serious Premier League experience, and by common consent that is the one position we absolutely had to fill. If posters here can see that then the chances are Smith could too.

Well, It's very much a Smith signing on paper, and it's also a player he's been keen on for a number of years.

We have a director of football model with a head coach. Most football fans familiarised themselves with how this works about 30 years ago.

The evidence does suggest that to be the case, which is good news.

It does seem here that it is a player Smith wanted, which is good. But Webber bought players for Farke last season that he did not think were good enough and that didn't work last season and certainly won't work under Smith. Webber's magic beans are not worth having.

Cardiff are looking at Gareth Bale, I hear he's pretty good.

Mebbe we could launch a cheeky bid? Get Rowe and Springett a loan a division down for seasoning and get Bale in?

(Yeah, I've not had my morning cuppa yet!)

Well 200k/week (10m) is less than what we spent on Tzolis in fee's and wages last season.

But even that's probably not enough! lol.

I have seen on here a few people claiming Hayden's injury record is not bad but I think they are looking at his whole career. Yes he doesn't look like a sick note but the worry is he has had major issues in the last 12 months. He has had a big operation and sometimes players don't come back the same even with it being successful. If he is the same player after the operation and doesn't have any relapse then he will be a good signing. I guess this is part of why it's a season loan to have a look before we buy.

Big congratulations to Stuart Webber and his team, getting this deal done shows his 100% commitment to NCFC.

Don't you mean 90%?

Once again Stuart makes mugs of the permanently disgruntled and makes a stunning signing.

It seems it is possible for the man who does the job to manage his time and have a personal life.

I believe terms like stunning signing were said a lot last summer. Let's keep the powder dry for a bit. If he hadn't had the injuries he's had would we have got him, probably not. We can't sign premiership players unless they come with a but attached to their name. As a player I'm very happy and really hope he comes back from the operation 100% but stunning signing we will have to wait and see.

I'm interested by this signing. Sure it was pretty obvious we needed new midfielders, but historically it's been an area we have underinvested in.

I wonder if Webber has had a bit of an epiphany.

I suspect it's more the case that we could never quite find the right player at the right price.

Perhaps you could give us some examples of the lots of times last summers signings were called 'stunning'.

Otherwise we'll have to assume you made that bit up.

Pfft, the ONLY reason we've signed an experienced, Premier League proven defensive midfielder on the 7th June is because it gives Stuart a little more climbing time in July. He dun't c4r3 abooot the club buh! 😉

Webber may have green lighted the deal but it sounds as though Smith already wanted him and was instrumental in getting it over the line.

I'm happy for Deano to carry on in this fashion, leaving Webber to unearth some emerging starlets from elsewhere.

That's just brilliant management by Webber. He decided to employ Smith and then recognised that he had some good ideas re transfers.

The best members of a senior leadership team know when to delegate. We are in very good hands with Stuart at the helm. The Board should be applauded that they persuaded him to sign another contract.

If this is just the start of Smithing building a team that's his I can't wait to see what comes next

Wouldn't mind if we try to take a few other players off of Newcastle's hands with them probably spending big this summer. They obviously aren't hurting for money so would be happy to have players off of their wage bill. I'd take Richie, Gayle or Murphy who won't be in the picture next year. Gayle would make good competition for Pukki, could play the Rhodes role next year and Ritchie or Murphy would be a good replacement for Rashica if he goes, I know Ritchie is 32 but he takes a good set piece which we badly lack right now and can cover LB, Murphy got 9 goals for Sheff Wednesday last year and I'd play him over Placheta, Tzolis, Dowell or Sinani any day of the week.

I've just finished the biography of Stalin I've been reading (highlighted in a previous thread) - the above MO seems vaguely familiar.

Be in no doubt Webber is in charge, the coaching team will have input but all the decisions rest with Stuart.

His astute management & leadership is critical.
