EXCLUSIVE: US tycoons in Norwich City investment talks

I didn’t think the club had said anything? A lot of the noises from the apparent in the knows seem muddled and contradictory

A NCFC spokesperson was referred to in the ITV article earlier saying this.

"However, the Canaries have stressed that any investment would not lead to a change in the status of Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones as joint majority shareholders."

Thanks Badger wasn’t aware club had officially commented. That does make this all seem very odd then.

Only a fool would invest in the club while Smith still had a say.

Watch another chance to improve our fortunes slip away because the old cook won't let go.

Only a fool would denigrate Smith's input into the club when the club is in an infinitely better state now than it was at the start of her tenure.

It seems like a good tie up to me.  I guess in the background we need to trust Micahel and Delia to manage the potential risk for the future.

Good point and agreed, but also at the time they do need to realise they haven taken the club as far as they can

They haven't officially commented anywhere, Anglia have obviously rung them for a comment & assume that's what someone may have hinted at, let's face it club aren't going to tell anyone anything in the midst of negotiations are they?

It’s absolutely ideal really. The only thing else you’d want from an owner that Delia and Michael don’t have is money and sporting strategy expertise and this yank lad ticks both them boxes perfectly.

It certainly would be a game changer. It ha not gone through yet, but almost certainly will so it could be a good time to "get in early." I'm still not quite sure why it's City though?

The likes of Sunderland have shares available, who sorry 😳, probably represent a better investment with a much bigger upside and if the changes go through a bigger annual return.

What’s Sunderland’s debt like compared to ours?

That seems a pretty official comment to me. You don’t “stress” something if you don’t want to say anything. I’m pretty sure the clubs PR team aren’t that cr@p.

Norwich presents a lower risk investment due to its track record of being fiscally prudent and also achieving Premier League promotion more regularly than any club out there.

Not necessarily. I would however say that only a fool would invest in the club without proper corporate governance being put in place as a prerequisite. Also I assume they would require the right to appoint a representative to the board.

It could be that they are buying Foulger's shares + some new ones? 🤷‍♂️

When Banham Poultry went toes up Michael Foulger kept the farms, some for himself and some in trust for the family.

I have heard a rumour that Michael's farms have gone bust - which might be possible given the current cost of feed - so his shares could be available.

Ideologically though Badger, Norwich is a close fit to Attanasio's MO in the US.  I think that is the main reason for the interest.  Also of note is similarities in how he bought the Brewers from someone looking to retire gracefully from ownership due to advancing years.  I don't find it difficult to see why.

If he's looking at making a sizeable investment on those terms then that's a massive vote of confidence in the running of the club.

Sunderland were lucky because Ellis Short wrote off all the debt the club owed him. They don't have a debt problem anymore.

True - but the upside and potential is so much bigger at Sunderland - a ground with c50,000 capacity means the revenue potential is much bigger and the chances of staying in the EPL once they get there.

Plus they would be cheaper to buy a stake in. If it were some form of long term investment, I'd have thought that they offer greater potential.

The point is she could have sold at literally any time, even in League One, and significantly financially benefited far more than she has done.

She has benefitted more by not selling though as the price of football clubs and the amount of money in football has increased by loads year on year.

She's been a good owner and I believe she loves the club but it is not a misrepresentation to say she has profited enormously by being the owner for the past 25 years. Even an emotionally invested old socialist (as some on here like to call her) isn't as wet behind the ears as you'd like to think to know that keeping hold of an asset in an industry that keeps going up makes financial sense.

That's also true. I guess it comes down to the preferences and motivations of the investor and whether they prefer high risk and high returns or low risk and lower returns.

When I say low returns though, at the time Peter Cullum was looking to invest, the total value of the club was about 40-50 million quid; it's now in the region of 150 million, making it 300% growth over 14 years, which amounts to 8% growth per year on average.

I never knew that, just reading up on their status. They’ve turned it round nicely!

Monty, as well as that, the EDP has said it understands the investment will be through the purchase of shares. Hence the apparent contradiction!
