Is it all that inevitable he goes? His stock is at a bit of a low at the moment but he still has plenty of time on his contract. I just can’t think where he would go or who is going to stump up the money we’d demand for him.

Say we want £20m. There’s so many right backs that have come through that would cost even less and represent the same gamble like Djed Spence for example, I’m just not sure the right market is there at least domestically. Newcastle got Trippier, Everton got that Scottish lad, the Japanese lad has settled in at Arsenal and Doherty/Royal are doing a job at Spurs, just not sure who would take a punt at the moment. He’s hardly pulled up trees at prem level and Jamal Lewis has been a disaster at Newcastle after a similar development.

Its a huge shame as that’s basically his reward for being professional, not kicking up a fuss and getting on with it when he had the likes of Barca, Bayern and Roma looking at him. It feels inevitable he needs to go this summer but I’m just not sure where.

Perhaps he’ll go for a really pathetic fee like under £10m to Brentford or something…

I’d be more than happy to see him here next season. If someone offers something we don’t think we could/should turn down, he’ll go.

If he does leave, I’d wish him all the best, he’s been nothing but a dedicated, model pro since the day we chucked him in against Ipswich.

I just can’t see where anyone is going to pay what we want.£20mil - really?

Does anyone think we’d definitely get more than say £15/16 mil for him? Can’t see it! Best we hold on to him and hope hecbounces back with the team IMO.

Same as Cantwell, maybe the Bournemouth experience will have made him realise… but I don’t see the good in selling him off for say £4-5mil when there’s still a potential £25mil player in him. Can we put him back on the right path with another fresh start and renew his contract? Anything better than a 20% chance and it’s probably worth doing!

He’s one of the few players we could probably move on this summer with a return of £10 mill + which we need to reinvest. In fairness to Webber his recruitment at Champ level is pretty spot on so I have faith that we can probably bring in someone who can do a decent job in the league for less than £10 mill. Trouble is, it’s thinking with 2 seasons in mind if we do go back up. Where does that quality come from?

He hasn't looked as good this season in an extremely poor team. That said I think some club will see the potential. Don't think we'll get as much as we may have done had he been on the top of his game, so a bargain to be had.

It will be sad to see him go and hopefully he stays another season, but probably the right time to move on.

Nice  player- but do not think this going to be a rush to sign him , if he do happens to sign for a prem side he is only going to be a sub player for some time, coming on for a bigger name player

Pretty sure he's off, and we have Mumba coming back too who's always looked good for us (Sadly did not set the world on fire at Peterborough) and Byram too, even if he's being slowly converted into a centreback

He's been a great player for us but if we got offered anything in excess of £10m then I'd sell him.

I actually think he has been pretty poor this season and the reality is he probably needs to move on for the sake of his career. Unfortunately I think both the club and him have missed the boat in terms of maximising the opportunity - there is no way we will get £20m and I cant see any of the big premier league or foreign clubs being interested.

I hope he still goes to a 'decent' club and we get enough money to invest even more in the critical CDM and striker positions.

Agree with West Ham, Dylan. Think it would be a good fit for him

Coufal though… looks like a tough ask to jump in straight up as first choice. I originally had him down to go to Everton to be Coleman’s successor but they have already seemingly bought him.

I imagine our plan all along regardless of survival was for Max to be sold to a big club but if the money doesn’t come in for him, then what?

Dortmund would be interesting with a % sell on given their recent record developing English players.

Man U might be another shout if they move on AwB

If the right offer comes in I’m sure we will let him go, he’s been a great servant and should be allowed to move on if he wants to.

Agree I don’t think it’s obvious where he will go but given previous interest I find it unlikely we wouldn’t find a buyer, but I also expect it to be less than previous expectations.

Funnily a Max Aarons thread has just started on the Brentford messageboard. I think £20m sounds a bit steep but £10m would be a bit of a steal and certainly better than Spence who I think is overrated. I know you won’t like it but Brentford is one team where he could rapidly establish as a regular starter as we’ve lacked a specialist RB/RWB all season (Canos started the season at RWB, now when playing with 2CBs we have Ajer playing out of position at RB). His ability to play LB would also appeal as we lack cover for Henry.

I think he's underrated by some on here. The way our season has been he's not got the chance to show the things that make him special- pace, dynamic linkup play and the ability to launch attacks from deep. He's a better attackers than defender so needs to play in a team that plays on the front foot and also can cover for his weakness in the air. I think he'll attract plenty of interest and if our finances are as rosy as has been suggested we should be able to hold out for a good price.

It's his time and possibly one of our few sellable assets. We have cover in that area also. He won't be here next season

Tbh I’m in two minds - he’s by far our best ‘attacking’ r/b but not the best defender, which is fine in the Champs but has cost us several times in the PL.

With Byram now looking the part and seeming to be through his injury issues (which can happen to anyone), and with Mumba now more seasoned, we do have decent cover should we get a decent offer for Max.

We'll still want big money for him and who will pay that for a right back who can't defend , so we'll have him in the championship , where he can be the best RB in league again.,,

Be ok of he stayed, but wouldn't be devastated to see him go if the money's right. We have Byram and can easily get a decent back up from lower down the league if Mumba isn't seen as good enough.

Bodger doesn't utilise him correctly and he has dipped ever since Bodger & Badger arrived.
Byram at centre back is the worst move since Rus Martin shifted into the middle. The mind boggles.

Cant wait for next season but also really want the club to appoint a manager who doesnt wreck all of the last 4 years work.

We'll probably sell him if the right offer comes in because he is one of our better players. Selling our best is what we do.

I consider that our chances for next season would be increased enormously should Max Aarons still be that consistent name in the starting line-up.

i think Max is a player where scouts and other managers think in our team we could make him better

i am sure there is plenty of clubs who would have him and he would improve

in a better team he would have better players covering his runs etc

Let's be fair. I think most us expected him to be gone last time we were relegated. There seemed to be a fair number of 'big' teams interested in Max then, and yet he stayed here. Perhaps he is just comfortable here.

The lad needs to leave, owes us nothing but in this team is going backwards. Clichéd stuff but I’d love to see him reach his full potential at a bigger/better club.

Has not impressed this season in defence or going forward as WB.  Not been the player of 18/9 for some time.  Can't think who will pay the big bucks.  Brentford maybe but only paying a bargain price, will be lucky to get £10m, not looked worth it.

Not only have the Board sp*nked the Godfrey and Buendia money up the wall by purchasing a bunch of players unfit for purpose, but any sale value of all the other squad players has drastically reduced, with Cantwell and Aarons leading the way.

When Norwich won the Championship in such style under Farke last season, every supporter, bar none, would have scoffed at the suggestion of the position we find ourselves.

This season has not only turned NCFC into a laughing stock when it comes to top level football, but has enforced a complete rebuild, as all the current squad have proved (bar Pukki) that they are not good enough for PL football.

The fact that Dean Smith thinks there are goal scorers in the squad should concern supporters for the coming season. Our midfielders would struggle to score if the goal posts were twice the size……..and then there is Sargent….

Congratulations to Alex Neil on achieving a superb ‘double’!

I don't see Max leaving this summer. He's had a mixed season at best. Better re-establish himself in a successful Championship team, then look to the future after.

Good player. Has suffered from the departure of Buendia.

Needs to improve his final ball - as has been the case for some time now.

I'd much rather he was playing for us than someone else next season.
