I'm hoping Smith isn't here to do any deals this summer.

Show him the door on Monday.

Smith doesn't do the deals anyway so kinda completely irrelevant

There's still a question mark over Omo's fitness and durability. I'd go with 5 even if we predominantly only play 2 of them. If we qet an offer we can't refuse on any of the others, then we utilise non specialist CBs.

Besides, Cedric Kipper; what's not to like!

Agreed with this. Omobamidele hasn’t come on as everyone thought he might. Definitely not in comparison to Godfrey. My gut is saying if he doesn’t kick on this season and make a place his he might just become another interchangeable squad member.

Does anyone know of any other potential youth CB we have on the conveyor belt waiting in the wings?

Also, can I be the first to say: why is Webber wasting time signing another centre back when what we must have is the Skipp replacement we didn’t sign last year??? 😡

(For the avoidance of doubt, this is not serious)

I think people are a bit delusional about player quality, Gibson is an excellent standard CB if he's number 3 or 4 in the Champs.  If we bring in someone to be a starter with Hanley and Omo as hopefully number 3 competing for a starting position then Gibson will be excellent to have in the squad next season.  Zimbo unfortunately we probably need to let go, he's probably a good player at Champs level but fitness-wise, he's just not available often enough.

Bit off topic but just seen Ebou Adams has got a move to Cardiff. Worked his way back up the leagues after his release and now plying his trade in The Championship. Good on the lad

I can remember some of criticism of the club for letting him go in 2018, some people who watched the U23s felt he was worthy or a chance or more time.

Has an aggressive streak that we sorely miss, sent off three times in the season just finished.  If he uses that aggression correctly then will do well under Pearson at Cardiff.

Losing? It'll be the same as this season really...

Jonathan Tomkinson has been training with the 1st team recently, he’s 6ft 3 & I’m read an article on My Football Writer which said that he’s another player they expecting a lot of.

Zimbo has one year left and is very injury prone, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go this summer. There’s also strong rumours about Hanley going as well. Kipre certainly doesn’t sound great considering he’s only played 14 games for WBA and yet to play for Steve Bruce, but looking on https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cedric-kipre/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/364827 he looks relatively well experienced (88 Champs, 32 SPL) and if £1m would be enough I wouldn’t be surprised to see us signing him

However, if we do sign him I would only use him as an option to let Tomkinson go out on loan/replacement for Zimbo etc, it’s just I can’t see him as a replacement for Hanley if he goes

He’s taken 4 years, it’s great he’s now got the opportunity to play Championship football but we couldn’t realistically hold onto him for that length of time as a prospect and there’s no guarantee he will make it at this level and even if he does maybe this is his ceiling.

Given what’s occurred I’d still say it was the correct decision.

Connor Goldson from rangers is available on a free in the summer I’d certainly take him. While talking about players from Glasgow I’d happily take Carter-Vickers who’s been on loan at Celtic this year too.

We already have 3 CB's around the age of 30 we really don't need another unless 2 of the 3 are leaving.

Apparently had Championship offers last summer but rejected them in case he didn't get lots of football and messed up his AFCON place, he went to AFCON to play for Gambia.

Great Story to go from playing for Dartford and waiting tables at TGI Fridays to playing in the AFCON and Championship within 6 years.

I think Goldson might still have been playing in the PL if it wasn’t for his suspected heart problem. Been a first choice for Rangers for 4 seasons and they want to keep him. Scores a few goals too. Age isn’t a problem for me-if you’re good enough you’re not too old 😀

There is rumoured interest in both Hanley and Gibson and Kabak is returning after loan.

Real question is if we  go 5 at the back in the championship or not.. Omo/Kipre/Byram would be pretty solid 3 centrebacks I suppose

Well why not park the whole team in front of goal that should do it

That's somewhat harsh isn't it? Omo was excellent until he got injured, and he hasn't played since. How was he supposed to "come on as expected" if he hasn't played a game?

Much like the story of Harry Kane and his loan in Norfolk, these things are often sliding-doors moments. You'd have to argue that if he had stayed in the u23s at Norwich, not gotten in the side because we went into the PL, had a few loans etc, he wouldn't be the player he is today.

Either that or he's the DM we've been looking for forever, why can't we be Cardiff?

Well the expectation was he’d kick on. And he got injured like you said so therefore he didn’t hit the heights we were all expecting. I’m not writing him off Mr Horse fly so you can relax on this balmy Spring evening, merely stating I hope he does sparkle this coming season. Either way, I also want to know who’s next in line for that position and some helpful soul has put my mind at ease. I bid you farewell!

Oh I don’t disagree, just saying there’s a possibility he wouldn’t be in this position if he hadn’t left and also no guarantee he’s still going to progress into a top Championship/lower PL player.
